The role combines hands-on administration of databases,\nstorage systems with the development of reliable data pipelines and data-quality controls,\nand governed data products for analytics, Data and AI projects. The position ensures that data\nservices are secure, observable, scalable, documented and recoverable throughout their\nlifecycle.\nWhat you will do:\n• Operate and maintain database, metadata and storage services supporting scientific\ndata management and archiving.\n• Design and manage data pipelines for data ingestion, validation, transformation and\npublication.\n• Develop and maintain data-processing workflows, APIs and integrations.\n• Ensure data quality through automated validation, monitoring and issue resolution.\n• Prepare secure, documented datasets for analytics, machine learning and other Data\nand AI initiatives.\n• Administer Apache Cassandra, MySQL, Apache Jena and S3-compatible object storage\nacross different environments.\n• Implement monitoring, logging, backup, recovery and disaster-recovery procedures.\n• Troubleshoot incidents, optimise performance and ensure platform reliability,\nsecurity and scalability.\n• Automate operational tasks and maintain technical documentation.\n• Collaborate with research and application teams to improve data services and\ninfrastructure.\nWhat we expect:\n• University degree in computer science, data engineering, software engineering,\ninformation systems or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.\n• Demonstrated experience operating production data platforms and developing\nreliable data-processing or integration solutions.\n• Strong SQL skills and practical experience with Python or a comparable language for\ndata processing, automation, testing and integration.\n• Good understanding of ETL and ELT patterns, data modelling, APIs, workflow\norchestration, schema management, data quality and data observability.\n• Hands-on experience with relevant technologies such as Apache Cassandra, MySQL,\nRDF/SPARQL and Apache Jena, and S3-compatible object storage; experience with\ndistributed systems is an advantage.\n• Experience with Linux, networking fundamentals, monitoring and logging tools such\nas Prometheus and Zabbix, performance analysis, capacity planning and incident\ntroubleshooting.\n• Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, configuration management, containers\nor infrastructure as code is desirable.\nIn return we provide you with:\n• An attractive remuneration package suited to the candidate’s education and\nexperience\n• A stimulating and diverse environment in a cutting-edge international research facility\nin Dolní Břežany, just outside Prague, with excellent public transport connections\n• A friendly workplace that makes a positive impact on society\n• Opportunities for professional growth and skill development\n• Full-time employment\n• 5 weeks of holidays and 6 days of personal leave\n• Meal allowance, pension contribution, Resaver pension fund and other benefits\nExtreme Light Infrastructure ERIC / ALPS FACILITY/ ELI-Beamlines\nThe Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) is the world’s largest high-power laser research facility,\noffering cutting-edge lasers for groundbreaking science and innovation.
