Elmet Technologies is looking for a Process Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Lewiston, Maine.\nIn this role, you’ll take technical ownership of manufacturing equipment and processes, working directly with production teams to improve quality, reliability, efficiency, and manufacturing performance. Your responsibilities will include:\nServe as the technical owner of assigned manufacturing equipment and processes\nDevelop, maintain, and improve process specifications, work instructions, equipment controls, and monitoring procedures\nMonitor, track, and audit manufacturing results to ensure products meet required material properties, quality standards, and manufacturability requirements\nPartner with development engineers to establish reliable manufacturing processes for new products, materials, and alloys\nWork with Production Planning and manufacturing leadership to optimize equipment scheduling, utilization, and capacity\nIdentify opportunities to improve manufacturing quality, productivity, reliability, and cost\nEvaluate manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, materials, and product designs to develop practical improvements\nPlan and manage the installation and integration of manufacturing equipment and processes\nSupport strategic planning and capital investment decisions to expand manufacturing capabilities and capacity\nApply Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methods to reduce waste, improve reliability, and increase process efficiency\nUse analytical and mathematical problem-solving methods to identify root causes of equipment, process, and product failures\nRecommend changes to equipment, tooling, product designs, tolerances, or processing methods to resolve manufacturing problems\nWork directly with Maintenance technicians to troubleshoot equipment issues and implement lasting solutions\nProvide hands-on technical support to operators and technicians on the manufacturing floor\nDevelop clear, detailed manufacturing work instructions and process documentation\nIdentify and address manufacturing safety concerns, including equipment and ergonomic risks\nCollaborate with Supply Chain, Finance, and Production to evaluate material rework, repair, or replacement decisions\nPrepare manufacturing proposals and cost estimates for new products, including tooling and resource requirements\nLead technical and process improvement projects, ensuring successful and timely implementation\nRequirements\nWhat We’re Looking For\nWe’re looking for an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with a practical understanding of manufacturing. You’ll need:\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience\nExperience working in a manufacturing environment\nStrong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills\nAbility to diagnose manufacturing and equipment issues using a hands-on, data-driven approach\nStrong planning, organization, and time management skills\nProject management skills and attention to detail\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision\nStrong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with employees at all levels\nCommitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement\nA results-oriented approach and willingness to take ownership of technical challenges\nExperience with Lean Manufacturing principles and practices is preferred.\nTechnical Experience That Can Help You Succeed\nOur Lewiston manufacturing operations involve specialized materials and processes. Experience with any of the following would be particularly valuable:\nHigh-temperature sintering and annealing furnaces\nHot and cold metal rolling, including rolling materials to foil thickness\nRod swaging\nWire drawing to very small diameters\nManufacturing equipment troubleshooting and process optimization\nEquipment installation, integration, and process development\nAdvanced materials processing and metalworking operations\nYou don’t need experience with every process listed above. You’ll spend meaningful time on the manufacturing floor, working directly with equipment, processes, operators, and maintenance technicians. One day might involve troubleshooting a furnace or production issue. Another could involve improving process controls, developing work instructions, evaluating manufacturing data, supporting equipment installation, or working with development engineers on a new material.\nYou’ll need to be comfortable moving between technical analysis, project work, and hands-on manufacturing support.
