Our Digital Business Solutions (DBS) UX team works across a broad portfolio of research and editorial products, combining deep user empathy with rigorous design craft to build tools that genuinely serve the people who use them.\nThe ERMS team is a cross-functional group of product, engineering and UX professionals based across the UK, Amsterdam, and India, and works closely with editorial stakeholders across Elsevier's journal portfolio.\nAbout the Role:-\nAs the Senior UX Designer you will be working on a number of key product areas; the main focus will be on the Editor Relationship Management System and its related Editor Portal, which are hosted on Salesforce and Salesforce Experience Cloud. You will own the design end-to-end, manage complex UX challenges, and deliver UI specifications. You will be an embedded member of the project team, collaborating closely with the Product Manager and development team throughout design, refinement, and build. You will also be supported by the wider DBS UX design team, who will help you onboard and provide design feedback throughout the engagement.We're looking for an exceptional designer who enjoys solving complex problems and creating elegant user experiences.\nYou thrive in environments where not everything is fully defined. Collaboration isn't something you do; it's simply how you work.\nResponsibilities: -\nCollaborate closely with the entire project team - Product, Engineering, and stakeholders - to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project scope, infrastructure, and user needs.\nReview existing provision and develop new consolidated information architecture and flows based on core user tasks; user testing and iterating with regular user feedback.\nUnderstand and map current editorial workflows, identify pain points, and design solutions that improve usability and support smoother workflow transitions.\nCreate design thinking and user understanding documents that demonstrate how existing functionality will be extended and mapped to meet user needs - transforming initial concepts into ready-to-ship features.\nProduce UX design and information architecture that meet the needs of the key user groups, working within the Elsevier design system.\nBuild prototypes and define key user flows for testing and feedback, managing fast iterations based on regular user input.\nDefine the portal’s look and feel using Elsevier design libraries and existing patterns, creating new components and patterns where needed.\nDevelop a strategy for migrating existing workflows to the new system as part of a continuous delivery approach.\nMeasure user feedback post-launch and work with the Product Manager to scope and plan for future phases.\nRequirements: -\nA portfolio demonstrating design experience covering User Research, UX, and UI design, with 12-15 years of experience in enterprise systems.\nProven experience in front-end UX/UI design for complex, data-rich platforms; experience with academic, editorial, or similar professional user groups is a bonus.\nExperience wire-framing, prototyping, and creating detailed, customer-focused designs, including knowledge of customer journey mapping techniques. \nHigh proficiency in Figma (Figma Make + AI approaches to design & development): able to produce polished UX flows, design concepts, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes.\nExcellent working knowledge of accessibility guidelines (WCAG) and demonstrable ability to produce WCAG 2.2 AA-compliant designs. \nStrong skills in user research and user testing, with hands-on experience running sessions and incorporating feedback into design iterations.\nAbility to interpret user analytics and research data, adopting a data-driven approach to creative problem-solving.\nComfortable with both tactical and strategic UX work - able to zoom in on interaction detail and zoom out to consider broader information architecture and system design.\nExperience applying an incremental product design process in an Agile environment.\nExperience using and contributing to pattern libraries and design systems (experience with the Graphene design system or Salesforce Experience Cloud is advantageous).\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate design concepts to a range of audiences and communicate persuasively at a strategic level.\nAbility to work collaboratively with diverse, global, cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.\nEnthusiasm for joining a collaborative UX team with a human-centred approach.\nGood to have\nExperience designing AI-powered products or AI-assisted workflows. \nExperience using AI in your design process, such as rapid prototyping, vibe coding, Spec-Driven Development (SDD), or similar approaches. \nExperience contributing to design systems.\nWork in a way that works for you: -\nWe promote a healthy work/life balance across the organization.
