Our team is very dynamic and interdisciplinary comprising talented and enthusiastic software engineers and bioinformaticians working closely together with biologists and scientists.\nThe UniProt resource is one of the most internationally used protein databases serving a large and diverse research community in genomics, proteins and proteomics.\nYour role\nYou will be responsible for desgining and developing robust software modules and scalable workflows for efficient data release and management of the ever-growing volume of scientific information. Scalability will be an important feature of your clear, concise, well tested and documented code. You will also be interested in applying analytic engines and technical approaches to distributed processing of big data. The ability to work towards tight deadlines is essential. You will be working in collaboration with the Ensembl team in data imports between these resources.\nDuties and responsibilities\nDesign, development, test, document and maintenance of software for the import production pipeline. Liaise with the Ensembl team in Reference selection and data imports\nAssist with the data analysis and data processing algorithms\nSupport and maintain the resource production and service release\nEngage and coordinate work with different teams in the organization\nAssist with innovative programming and big data technologies\nAssist with programming standards to promote best practices\nYou have\nA degree in Computer Science or related discipline\nSoftware Engineer with at least 3 years of professional experience in software development in a production environment\nExperience in Agile processes\nGood communication skills\nExperience in Java and/or Python development\nExperience in git and basic Unix Commands\nYou may also have\nYou may also have experience with large data processing technologies (Apache Spark)\nContract length:3 years grant based contract\nSalary: Grade 5 Monthly salary starting at £3,452after tax, plus generous benefits and financial allowances based on individual circumstances.
