Our integrated in-house production model utilizes coordinated BIM models to produce precise fabrication documentation to help ensure accurate installation.\nJob Summary\nThe Preconstruction Engineer supports the planning, development, and execution of mechanical construction estimates and proposals from conceptual design through project award. This role works closely with estimating, operations, engineering, project management, owners, architects, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to develop accurate scopes, budgets, and pricing strategies for a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial projects.\nThe ideal candidate possesses strong analytical abilities, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a desire to contribute to the successful development of projects before construction begins.\nEssential Duties & Responsibilities\nReview project drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements.\nPerform detailed quantity takeoffs for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and associated equipment.\nAssist in the preparation of conceptual, budgetary, design-build, GMP, and hard-bid estimates.\nDevelop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing for project estimates.\nSolicit, evaluate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations for scope, completeness, and competitiveness.\nParticipate in project walkthroughs, pre-bid meetings, design coordination meetings, and client presentations.\nIdentify potential scope gaps, constructability concerns, value engineering opportunities, and project risks.\nPrepare estimate summaries, pricing analyses, bid packages, proposal documents, and presentation materials.\nCollaborate with operations and project management teams to ensure successful project handoff following award.\nMaintain and update historical cost databases and estimating resources.\nAssist with conceptual budgeting during early project development stages.\nSupport design-build and integrated project delivery efforts by collaborating with internal and external engineering teams.\nUtilize estimating and project management software to support proposal development and documentation.\nMaintain confidentiality regarding project pricing, client information, and business strategies.\nPromote and support company safety initiatives and quality standards.\nPerform additional duties as assigned.\nQualifications\nTo perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEducation and Experience\nRequired:\nBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. \n0-5 years of construction, estimating, engineering, or preconstruction experience. \nProficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams. \nAbility to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation. \nStrong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. \nValid driver's license and ability to travel locally to project sites as needed.\nPreferred:\nExperience working with mechanical contracting, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or MEP construction projects. \nFamiliarity with Bluebeam Revu, Trimble AutoBid, QuoteSoft, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, On-Screen Takeoff, BuildingConnected, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar estimating software. \nPrevious internship or experience in estimating, project engineering, design-build, preconstruction, or project management. \nExposure to BIM, Revit, Navisworks, or other construction technology platforms.\nCompensation Range: Minimum $65,000 to a maximum $75,000; DOE\nOther Compensation: position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.\nBenefits: As a leading provider of mechanical and electrical construction, facilities services, and energy infrastructure, EMCOR Group is committed to its employees.
