We offer one of the industry’s widest portfolios of power options, including 100% battery-electric, diesel-electric hybrid, CNG, and clean diesel. \nENC is committed to revitalizing American manufacturing through innovation, customer focus, and the delivery of high-quality vehicles that keep communities connected, supported, and moving forward. \nAssistant Production Engineer\nLocation: Riverside, CA\nSalary Range: $80,000 - $115,000 \nPosition Summary\nWe are seeking an Assistant Production Engineer with extensive hands-on experience in commercial vehicle manufacturing and production floor operations. This role supports the Process Engineer in preparing production documentation, inspecting components and assemblies, verifying new product quality and functionality, and maintaining a safe and organized prototype vehicle work area.\nThe ideal candidate can interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics, troubleshoot vehicle systems, and work closely with engineering and production teams to identify and resolve issues before installation.\n Key Responsibilities\nThis list of essential duties is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties, as management may deem necessary from time to time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties of this position unless doing so would create an undue hardship.\nProduction Documentation and Process Support\nWork with the Process Engineer to create and update production bills of materials (BOMs), production drawings, assembly instructions, and work instructions.\nTranslate engineering requirements into clear, practical instructions for production personnel.\nVerify that production documents reflect approved designs, component requirements, and assembly sequences.\nIdentify drawing discrepancies and assembly concerns and coordinate their resolution with engineering.\nIn-House Parts and Wiring Inspection\nAssist with inspecting in-house manufactured parts against approved drawings and specifications before installation.\nPay particular attention to wires and harnesses, verifying wire size, length, identification, connector selection, pin assignments, crimps, routing provisions, and workmanship.\nPerform continuity and other specified electrical checks using appropriate test equipment and approved procedures.\nDocument discrepancies and support corrective actions to minimize wiring changes and rework after installation.\nNew Product Inspection and Functional Verification\nAssist the Process Engineer with quality inspections and functional checks for newly developed products, components, and prototype vehicles.\nPrepare inspection checklists, test records, and inspection reports based on engineering requirements and approved acceptance criteria.\nRecord results, identify nonconforming conditions, and track corrective actions through reinspection.\nSupport troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and vehicle control system issues during assembly and testing.\nPrototype Area Safety and Organization\nAssist production personnel in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized prototype vehicle development area.\nSupport proper storage, labeling, and handling of tools, parts, wiring, and test equipment.\nKeep work areas and access routes clear, identify hazards, and report unsafe conditions promptly.\nFollow established shop safety procedures and support consistent housekeeping and 5S practices.\nPosition Requirements\n10+ years of hands-on production floor experience, including at least 5 years of direct experience in commercial vehicle manufacturing.\nAbility to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, navigate 3D models, and understand assembly requirements.\nAbility to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, harness drawings, and connector pinout information.\nWorking understanding of programming concepts and vehicle control logic sufficient to support functional checks and troubleshooting.\nPractical experience troubleshooting vehicle electrical and mechanical systems.\nExperience inspecting fabricated parts, wiring, harnesses, and assemblies against drawings and specifications.\nAbility to use common inspection tools and electrical diagnostic equipment, including multimeters.\nAbility to prepare accurate BOMs, work instructions, inspection checklists, and technical records.\nStrong attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills, and clear communication with engineering and production personnel.\nAbility to work safely and effectively in a hands-on manufacturing and prototype development environment.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with commercial electric vehicles, vehicle electrical integration, and prototype builds.\nFamiliarity with CAD viewers or CAD software and manufacturing BOM or ERP systems.\nExperience with engineering changes, revision control, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.\nFamiliarity with CAN bus diagnostics and vehicle diagnostic software.\nTechnical training in manufacturing, automotive technology, electrical systems, or a related field.\nWork Environment\nThis is an onsite position based in Riverside, CA and requires being onsite. \n Benefits\nComprehensive benefits package: Medical (including FSA & HSA), dental, vision, life and disability insurance, EAP, mental health, and wellness programs \n401(k) with employer match \nPaid time off and twelve (12) paid holidays \nEmployee referral program \nCareer growth and development opportunities \nCareer Growth at ENC\nWe believe great careers and leaders are built from within.
