In this role, you will combine optical design, testing, simulation, and cross-functional project leadership to bring new and improved sensor designs into series production.\nWhat is the role about?\nAre you motivated by designing and improving optical measurement systems? Do you enjoy selecting optical components, simulating designs, and validating performance through hands-on testing? Can you guide cross-functional teams as prototypes move into series production? This Anaheim-based R&D role brings those opportunities together as you partner with engineers, laboratory technicians, production employees, vendors, customer service, and international teams to advance optical sensor technology.\nWhich tasks will you perform?\nYou will:\nDesign and redesign optical sensors, components, and subassemblies to meet customer needs while improving quality and reducing costs.\nSelect optical components, including UV, UV/VIS, and NIR lamps and LEDs, optical filters, and windows.\nDefine, perform, and document evaluation testing for parts, assemblies, and newly designed or redesigned sensors.\nSimulate and verify optical designs using software tools such as ZEMAX, and integrate designs into the technical framework of optical measurement systems.\nManage R&D projects across cross-functional and international teams in accordance with Endress+Hauser procedures.\nSupport the creation of mechanical drawings, bills of materials, routers, work instructions, and test equipment required to transfer prototypes into series production.\nAssess and improve photometers, evaluate engineering change requests, and conduct technology and patent assessments, including invention disclosures when appropriate.\nMentor and train laboratory technicians and production employees on the correct assembly and testing of optical sensors.\nSupport other departments, vendor and sub-supplier evaluations, product or technology transfer, field testing, and on-site problem solving, including occasional travel to Germany and customer locations.\nWhat do we expect from you?\nYou:\nHold a bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or a related field; a master's degree or PhD is preferred.\nBring five or more years of optical engineering design experience, including the application of photometry, spectrometry, and colorimetry standards.\nPossess deep knowledge of optics, optical components, optical measurement systems, manufacturing processes, and product applications.\nAre proficient with optical design software tools and able to perform optical engineering design tasks and manage projects.\nUnderstand electronic hardware, firmware, and software applications, along with product and part specifications and requirements.\nApply sound research methods and can organize, prioritize, and assign work to meet deadlines.\nCollaborate effectively with engineers, vendors, management, and cross-functional stakeholders, and communicate clearly in English.\nAre proficient with personal computers, Microsoft Office, and SAP, and can occasionally lift and carry up to 35 lbs independently.\nWhat can you expect from us?\nFamily-owned, highly committed global company with a sustainable vision of the future.\nLifelong learning encouraged by versatile training, tuition reimbursement, success coaching, and further education opportunities.\nComprehensive benefit package (to include medical, dental, vision) and 401(k) savings with company match. \nCompensation is competitive and includes bonus opportunities.\nWork-life balance encouraged through our 10 company-paid holidays, paid time off, paid parental leave, employee assistance programs (financial, mental, and physical health and wellbeing), and employee discounts.\nEmployees work in a safety-first, climate controlled, clean manufacturing facility with utilization of Lean practices and ergonomic workstations to enhance productivity and comfort. \nHow do you apply?\nTo apply, we kindly ask you to upload your documents on our career page.
