This role owns the creation and release of 2D drawings, 3D models, and bills of material, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and shop capabilities. The Design Engineer works cross-functionally with project management, manufacturing, and installation teams to deliver high-quality, custom storage solutions.\nLead Design Reviews with Customers to ensure all requirements are captured\nCreate and release complete drawing packages and BOMs for production\nEnsure all designs are aligned with manufacturing capabilities, tooling, and standard parts\nManage revision control and engineering changes throughout project lifecycle\nCollaborate directly with production to validate design feasibility\nParticipate in shop floor reviews, first-article builds, and troubleshooting\nIncorporate feedback from fabrication and installation teams into future designs\nSKILLS AND ABILITIES\nProficiency in Autodesk 2D and Inventor, with experience creating detailed drawings, models, and renderings.\nStrong understanding of structural design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.\nAbility to analyze project requirements and provide innovative, cost-effective design solutions.\nStrong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and accuracy.\nEffective communication and collaboration skills for working cross-functionally with project management, engineering, and manufacturing teams.\nTime management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.\nAbility to adapt designs based on feedback, changes in scope, or evolving project needs.\nWorking knowledge of RMI / ANSI MH16.1 standards (or willingness to learn quickly)\nExperience with structural steel design, load calculations, and connection detailing\nUnderstanding of fabrication processes (laser, punching, forming, welding, powder coating)\nAbility to design for DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly)\nEDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering\n2-4 years of relevant design engineering experience, preferably in structural racking, steel fabrication, or related industry.\nTraining and hands-on experience with Autodesk 2D and Inventor required.\nFamiliarity with rendering software and design documentation best practices preferred\nKEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES\nProduce accurate, production-ready drawings with minimal revision cycles (Meet design-to-release timelines aligned with project schedules\nOptimize designs for cost (material utilization, manufacturability, labor efficiency)\nMaintain BOM and drawing accuracy in ERP system\nReduce engineering change orders caused by design errors\nSupport quote accuracy through early design input\nWORK ENVIRONMENT\nThis role is based in an office setting, with the majority of work conducted at a desk/computer using design software. Regular collaboration on the production floor is required to review designs and ensure alignment with manufacturing processes. Travel (\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\nThis position predominantly involves sitting for extended periods while working at a computer. Some tasks may require walking or standing on the production floor to review equipment or project builds. Good manual dexterity and coordination are required for design work.
