Job Title:

DevOps Engineer

Location:

Brisbane, Australia

Job Title/High Level Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented and motivated DevOps Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will contribute to the design, automation, operation, and continuous improvement of our cloud platforms, development workflows, and production environments.

The DevOps Engineer will play a key role in enabling engineering teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable software through infrastructure as code, CI/CD automation, observability, and cloud-native practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving developer productivity, system reliability, and operational excellence, while applying sound engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges.

Experience with our technology stack is beneficial, but we are primarily seeking engineers who demonstrate strong DevOps fundamentals, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly. The DevOps Engineer will play a key role in building real-time, high-performance applications that integrate with optical navigation systems and surgical hardware to enhance surgeon workflows and improve patient outcomes. The ideal candidate is passionate about building robust, user-centric software in a highly regulated medical device environment and thrives in collaborative, cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and platform services to support software delivery and production operations

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions to enable consistent, repeatable, and automated environment provisioning

  • Build, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines that enable reliable and efficient software delivery

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineering, clinical research, product management, and quality to define and deliver software requirements

  • Partner with software engineers to improve system reliability, deployment processes, operational readiness, and developer experience

  • Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions to support production systems

  • Contribute to security, compliance, and governance initiatives across cloud environments and delivery pipelines

  • Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative improvements

  • Support application performance, scalability, availability, and disaster recovery initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and engineering standards.

  • Participate in Agile delivery processes and contribute to ongoing improvements in engineering practices and platform capabilities.

  • Advocate for automation and elimination of manual operational tasks wherever practical

  • Participate in verification and validation activities in collaboration with V&V teams to ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements.

Scope / Role Dimensions

  • Supports cloud platforms, deployment pipelines, observability tooling, and production and development environments

  • Collaborates closely with software engineers, architects, security, QA, and product teams

  • Contributes to platform engineering initiatives that improve reliability, developer productivity, and operational excellence

  • Participates in both project delivery and operational support activities

  • Helps establish and promote DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Infrastructure as Code best practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Software Engineering roles

  • Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure automation practices

  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines and software delivery workflows

  • Experience with Linux-based systems, containers, and distributed applications

  • Understanding of networking, security, identity management, and cloud architecture fundamentals

  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability practices

  • Experience working with version control systems such as Git

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Experience working within Agile software development environments

Desired Qualifications

We value strong engineering and DevOps fundamentals over direct experience with specific technologies. Candidates who have worked with comparable cloud, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, or observability platforms are encouraged to apply.

  • Experience with AWS services such as ECS, Fargate, CloudFront, S3, WAF, RDS, ECR, GuardDuty, CloudTrail and VPC

  • Experience operating production workloads within containerized environments

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, or CloudFormation

  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using TeamCity with the Kotlin DSL

  • Experience implementing observability solutions using Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, OpenTelemetry, or related tooling

  • Experience with SIEM tooling such as CrowdStrike Falcon and CSPM tooling such as WIZ

  • Experience with identity and authentication platforms such as Azure AD B2C, Entra ID, Auth0, Okta, or similar solutions

  • Understanding of SRE concepts including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational metrics

  • Experience working in regulated, safety-critical software and regulated environments

Core Competencies

  • Collaboration: Builds positive working relationships and contributes effectively within cross-functional teams.

  • Innovation: Drives development of advanced visualization and navigation technologies

  • Problem Solving: Diagnoses and resolves complex software and system issues efficiently

  • Communication: Clearly articulates technical concepts to diverse stakeholders

  • Accountability: Delivers high-quality software within timelines and regulatory constraints

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based and hybrid working environment.

  • Participation in Agile team ceremonies and collaborative planning activities.

  • Some flexibility may be required to support releases, deployments, or critical production issues.

Who We're Looking Fo r:

  • Eager to learn from experienced engineers and continuously improve.

  • Enjoys solving technical problems and finding practical solutions.

  • Collaborative and supportive team player.

  • Comfortable working in an Agile environment.
