This role oversees the payroll team, ensures accurate and timely processing across multiple pay schedules, and safeguards payroll reporting and regulatory compliance.\nThis is the right fit for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment, enjoys coaching a team, and takes pride in maintaining accuracy and compliance in payroll operations.\nKey Responsibilities\nTeam LeadershipSupervise and develop payroll coordinators, setting priorities and workloads around each pay cycle\nReview work for accuracy, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews\nServe as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, employee inquiries, and manager questions\nOversee the payroll group inbox to ensure timely, accurate responses\n\nPayroll ProcessingOversee end-to-end processing of weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees\nReview timekeeping data, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and retro adjustments before each run\nApprove payroll registers, resolve discrepancies, and release payments, including direct deposits, paper checks, and off-cycle payments\nProcess garnishments, child support orders, and other deductions accurately and on schedule\nEnsure timely, accurate processing of adjustments and final pay\n\nReporting & ReconciliationReconcile payroll to the general ledger and coordinate with Accounting on journal entries and accruals\nPrepare payroll reports, such as labor cost, headcount, and overtime, for Finance and HR leadership\nMaintain controls that protect confidential employee and compensation data\n\n Tax & ComplianceEnsure compliance with the FLSA and federal, state, and local wage-and-hour, payroll tax, and reporting requirements\nOversee payroll tax deposits, quarterly filings (Form 941 and state equivalents), and year-end W-2/1099 processing\nStay current on regulatory changes and update procedures and system settings as needed\nSupport internal and external audits with clear documentation\n\nSystems & Process ImprovementAdminister the payroll system and partner with HR and IT on upgrades, integrations, and data accuracy\nDocument procedures and identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes\n\nWho You Are\nA people leader: you coach and develop your team, set clear priorities, and give feedback that helps people grow\nCompliance-minded: you know multi-state payroll and wage-and-hour rules, and you stay ahead of changes\nAccurate and detail-oriented: you catch discrepancies before payroll is released, not after\nA process improver: you document, streamline, and automate so the team can do more, more consistently\nDiscreet and trustworthy: you protect sensitive employee and compensation data\nPreferred Qualifications\n5+ years of experience with core payroll functions, including 2+ years in a lead or supervisory role\nWorking knowledge of multi-state payroll and wage-and-hour compliance\nDemonstrated ability to coach, develop, and lead a team\nAbility to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment\nAdvanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciliations\nExcellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills\nExperience with Paylocity is a plus\nCompensation & Benefits\nThe compensation range for this position is 65,000-70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
