We are headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois and currently have 2,100 associates.\nThe Automation & Development Manager leads a multidisciplinary team of Developers, Automation Engineers, and Business Analysts to build automation capabilities that improve service reliability, reduce manual effort, and accelerate incident resolution across client and company infrastructure.\nThis role owns the automation roadmap from discovery through delivery and value realization. You will partner with clients, operations, platform owners, and service delivery leaders to identify and convert operational pain points into scalable, reusable solutions.\nThe role requires strong technical leadership across observability platforms, ITSM tools, workflow automation, API integrations, and modern development practices-with accountability for governance, security, and measurable ROI.\nResponsibilities\nEstablish team goals, priorities, and delivery roadmaps aligned with business objectives\n\nLead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team, driving high performance, capability growth, and effective resource utilization\n\nApply Agile principles and actively participate in Agile ceremonies\n\nOwn end-to-end delivery of automation initiatives from requirements and design through deployment and value realization\n\nLead the design and implementation of automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and service reliability\n\nApply broad technical expertise to mentor and guide teams in developing scalable and effective automation capabilities\n\nDrive continuous improvement across ITSM platforms and workflows to enhance performance, reduce inefficiencies, and improve resolution outcome\n\nDesign scalable, reusable automation frameworks; establish and enforce development standards and governance to ensure security, reuse, and maintainability\n\nProject Management including planning of deliverables, resource planning, costing/estimation, risk management, change request management, project status and reporting.\n\nAnalyze complex operational problems and translate them into innovative automation solutions; apply root-cause analysis and design thinking to solve problems cost-effectively\n\nPractice and coach the team on problem-solving approaches, code quality standards, and architectural principles; develop strong technical opinions to guide design decisions\n\nEngage with clients and stakeholders to understand operational challenges; facilitate discovery sessions to identify automation opportunities and build implementation roadmaps\n\nEnsure seamless collaboration with application teams, engineering, DevOps, and business stakeholders to align priorities and remove blockers\n\nPresent automation outcomes, business benefits, and ROI to leadership and clients; maintain transparency through regular status updates, dependencies, risks, and issues\n\nPerform data analysis to identify repetitive operational issues and design solutions to prevent recurrence\n\nConduct buy vs. build analysis and vendor evaluations; recommend technology adoption based on business requirements and organizational fit\n\nIdentify and manage technical, security, and compliance risks; ensure solutions meet organizational standards\n\nEnsure automation solutions are scalable and reliable to meet current and future organizational needs\n\nPromote continuous improvement; capture learnings from retrospectives and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance team capability and efficiency\n\nProvide post-implementation support and troubleshooting to optimize deployed solutions\n\nExperience & Skill Requirements\nExperience\n12+ years in IT Operations, Managed Services, or Automation/Engineering\n\n8+ years leading automation or development teams in Agile environments\n\nExperience with Python, PowerShell, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or .NET\n\nStrong knowledge of API integrations and CI/CD pipelines\n\nFamiliarity with Git-based source control such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket\n\nWorking knowledge of Linux, Windows, network, and storage environments\n\nCertifications & Skills\nRequired\nITIL v3 / ITIL 4 Foundation\n\nAgile / Delivery: PMP, CSM, or PSM\n\nExpertise in at least one of these areas:\n\nITSM: ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, BMC Helix\n\nObservability: Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk\n\nAutomation: UiPath, Power Automate, Automation Anywhere\n\nIaC / DevOps: Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef\n\nPreferred\nServiceNow - CSA / CAD / CIS\n\nCloud: AWS or Azure\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer.
