You’ll bring deep PHP and object-oriented expertise, plus fresh ideas for using AI to change how our team designs, writes, tests, and ships code.This isn’t a maintain-the-status-quo role. We want someone who looks at how we work with PHP today, says “here’s a better way,” and then proves it. You’ll lead technical projects, work directly with leadership to define requirements, and raise the bar for the engineers around you.\nWhat you’ll do\nLead the design, build, and deployment of features and services using object-oriented principles and modern PHP practices.\nChallenge our current PHP patterns, tooling, and workflows, and champion improvements that make our code faster to ship, easier to maintain, and more secure.\nExplore and prototype new ways to use AI in our development lifecycle, such as AI-assisted code generation, refactoring, test creation, code review, and root-cause analysis. Then turn what works into repeatable team practices.\nEvaluate AI-assisted tools and set guidelines for using them responsibly, with human review, strong testing, and security standards.\nWork with leadership and product partners to define software requirements and translate business needs into sound technical plans.\nTake the lead on operational and technical projects, from scoping and estimation through delivery.\nShape architecture decisions, designing reusable, testable components that scale.\nDiagnose and resolve complex bugs and performance issues, using logs, metrics, and traces to find root causes.\nDrive automated testing, including unit and integration tests, and improve coverage across the codebase.\nLead by example in code reviews, give constructive feedback, and mentor engineers at every level.\nApply secure coding practices and address common web and application security risks before they become problems.\nKeep technical documentation clear and current, using AI tools to help.\nShare what you learn through demos, lunch-and-learns, and written guides, so the whole team benefits.\nWhat you bring\nRequired\n6+ years of professional software development experience in an object-oriented language, with deep PHP expertise.\nStrong command of OOP principles, design patterns, and clean code practices.\nA track record of improving how a team builds software, not only what it builds.\nHands-on experience using AI tools for coding, debugging, testing, or documentation, and sound judgment about when to trust their output and when not to.\nExperience working in a Linux-based development environment.\nProficiency with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS3.\nSolid experience with relational databases and SQL/MySQL.\nWorking knowledge of system architecture, debugging strategies, and observability (logs, metrics, tracing).\nA demonstrated commitment to code quality, testing, and maintainable design.\nStrong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical partners.\nNice to have\nExperience building AI-powered features or integrating LLM APIs into PHP applications.\nExperience creating repeatable AI workflows for your team, such as shared prompts, test generation, or automated review.\nExperience with Docker or containerized environments.\nExposure to AWS or other cloud platforms.\nExperience in healthcare or other regulated software environments.\nAdditional Information\nWhile we've outlined some key qualities we typically seek, it's essential to remember that there might be additional unique strengths and talents you possess that would make you an exceptional match for us, even if they're not explicitly mentioned.
