It’sthe curiosity, dedication, and innovation that drive our success and help us anticipatethe future.\nJob Title: Staff Software Developer\nLocation: Cambridge (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)\nJob Type: Permanent, full-time\nPosition Overview:\nAn experienced Staff Software Developer with strong C and Python expertise, responsible for leading the design and delivery of complex features within a major cryptographic security product.\nThe role provides technical leadership from initial feature analysis through design, implementation, testing, and release. Working across embedded software, platform components, client-side tools, and APIs, it establishes clear technical direction, drives cross-functional collaboration, and ensures solutions are secure, maintainable, and aligned with the product architecture.\nThis is a hands-on technical leadership position requiring strong software engineering and design skills, sound technical judgement, and the ability to influence, mentor, and guide engineers across multiple disciplines.\nResponsibilities:\n· Lead complex features from initial analysis and technical design through breakdown, estimation, implementation, validation, and release.\n· Translate high-level or evolving requirements into a clear technical approach for the team setting priorities of tasks.\n· Design, develop, test, review, and maintain high-quality software across relevant areas of the product.\n· Coach and mentor engineers, including supporting Senior Software Developers in developing their technical leadership and feature ownership.\nSupport architecture team in design of system-level architecture (availability, latency, cost, data models). Use cross-domain knowledge to anticipate scale and evolution over time.\nQualifications:\nBasic Qualifications\n· A degree, equivalent qualification, or equivalent practical experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.\n· Strong software development expertise in C, Python, or comparable systems-level technologies, with the ability to work effectively within an established C and Python codebase.\n· Significant experience designing and delivering complex, multi-component software systems.\n· Experience working across multiple components or layers of a software system, such as embedded software, device drivers, platform components, client-side tools, or APIs.\n· Experience providing technical leadership for complex features or substantial software initiatives.\n· Practical experience with CI/CD and disciplined, automated testing practices.\n· Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions across teams or disciplines.\nBonus Qualifications:\nExperience working within a regulated industry or with software certification, assurance, or compliance requirements.\nWorking knowledge of open-source licensing, software supply-chain considerations and contributions to, or practical use of, open-source software projects and ecosystems.\nKnowledge of cryptographic principles, secure software development, or threat modelling.\nExposure to Agile development methodologies and scaled product-development environments.\nAt Entrust, we don’tjust offer jobs - we offer career journeys.
