The company provides a comprehensive portfolio of environmental services, including commercial and trade waste management, hazardous waste disposal, industrial cleaning, and water and wastewater treatment. By transforming complex and hard-to-handle materials into secondary raw materials, renewable fuels, and recycled products such as aggregates and plastic compounds, it helps commercial, industrial, and public sector clients advance circular economy goals and reduce environmental impact.

Enva is seeking a hands-on Reactive Maintenance Engineer for its newly refurbished eWaste site in Stourbridge. The site will have a focused operation centred on Small Domestic Appliance (SDA) and SDA pre-pick processing. The role is responsible for keeping processing equipment safe, reliable and available, with a strong emphasis on effective reactive maintenance during the 4 on 4 off shift pattern, supported by planned preventive maintenance and continuous improvement activity

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive, safe and effective reactive maintenance support across the 4 on 4 off operational shift pattern, prioritising production-critical breakdowns and restoring equipment with minimal disruption.
  • Maintain, fault-find and repair SDA and SDA pre-pick processing equipment, including conveyors, motors, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, pipework and associated plant.
  • Complete planned preventive maintenance, inspections and servicing in line with the site maintenance schedule and operational priorities.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and undertake appropriate electrical fault-finding within competence, escalating specialist issues where required.
  • Overhaul, adapt and improve existing machinery to increase reliability, safety, maintainability and processing performance.
  • Carry out welding, fabrication and general engineering repairs as required and within competence.
  • Support commissioning, snagging and optimisation of equipment within the newly refurbished site.
  • Identify recurring faults, complete root-cause analysis and recommend practical corrective actions and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed in accordance with site safety procedures, including isolation and lock-off requirements, permits to work and safe systems of work.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, breakdown reports, parts usage and handover information to a high standard.
  • Monitor critical spares and notify the appropriate manager of replacement or stock requirements.
  • Carry out basic facilities and site-services maintenance where required.
  • Work closely with operations colleagues, contractors and other engineers, providing clear shift handovers and a flexible, first-time-right approach.
  • Support other shifts or operational requirements where reasonably required, including planned shutdowns and urgent maintenance activity.

Working Pattern and Environment

  • 4 on 4 off shift pattern, with working hours aligned to operational requirements.
  • Reactive maintenance coverage is a core requirement of the role. Planned maintenance will be completed around production priorities and agreed shutdown windows.
  • The role is site based within an operational eWaste processing facility and involves regular exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery and changing temperatures.
  • Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be worn in line with site requirements.
  • The role involves manual activity, accessing machinery and working in operational areas. Any specific requirements will be managed through appropriate risk assessment and reasonable workplace support.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Level 3 engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical competence
  • Practical maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, recycling or processing environment.
  • Experience of fault-finding and repairing conveyors, bearings, motors, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to respond calmly and methodically to breakdowns in a fast-paced, production-led environment.
  • Good understanding of engineering safety, machinery isolation and safe maintenance practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to complete clear maintenance records.
  • Flexible, team-oriented approach and willingness to work the required 4 on 4 off days and nights shift pattern.

Desirable

  • Electrical fault-finding experience or a relevant electrical qualification.
  • Experience of WEEE, eWaste, materials recovery, waste processing or similar automated processing plant.
  • Welding, fabrication or machining capability.
