A true flagship of the French industry and a technology pioneer, ENVEA has throughout its history placed environmental preservation and sustainable innovation at the heart of the development of its measuring instruments, its strategy, and its founding values.\nAbout the Role\nWorking within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities across the product development lifecycle, ensuring our instruments are robust, reliable, cost-effective and suitable for demanding operating conditions.\nYour responsibilities will include:\nMechanical design: Develop concepts, detailed designs, components, sub-assemblies and complete instruments using SolidWorks and PDM.\nDesign for manufacture: Apply DFM and value engineering principles to reduce cost, part count and complexity while maintaining performance, quality and serviceability.\nPrototyping and validation: Support prototype assembly, component evaluation, system testing and product validation.\nEngineering analysis: Apply your knowledge of materials selection, thermal stability, fluid mechanics and mechanical design for harsh industrial environments.\nDesign assurance: Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA and accelerated life testing.\nTechnical documentation: Produce and maintain manufacturing drawings, design records, test reports and engineering documentation.\n Production support: Maintain engineering data, including parts and bills of materials (BOMs), and support production changes and ongoing product improvements.\nCross-functional working: Collaborate with electronics, firmware, operations, service and commercial teams to deliver designs that meet technical and business requirements.\nCustomer and supplier engagement: Visit industrial sites to understand operating conditions and work with suppliers on component development, qualification and improvement.\nYou will also contribute to the continuous improvement of existing products, helping enhance performance, reliability and manufacturability throughout their service life.\nYour Skills and Experience\nWe are looking for a technically strong, hands-on engineer who can take ownership of mechanical design challenges and work effectively across disciplines.\nEssential requirements\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering, or an HNC supported by equivalent industrial experience.\nExtensive mechanical design experience within a new product development environment.\nExperience designing instruments, sensors or similar products, ideally for demanding industrial applications.\nStrong 3D CAD skills, preferably SolidWorks, with experience using PDM systems.\nKnowledge of materials selection, thermal stability and fluid mechanics.\nPractical experience of design for manufacture and value engineering.\nExperience in prototype development, mechanical testing and product validation.\nUnderstanding of the full product development process, from concept through to production and product support.\nFamiliarity with design reviews, DFMEA, risk assessment and accelerated life testing.\nA broad understanding of electro-mechanical product development, including mechanical, electronic, software and manufacturing considerations.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.\nDesirable requirements\nExperience developing process monitoring instruments or environmental monitoring equipment.\nPractical experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).\nExperience designing equipment for hazardous areas in accordance with ATEX and IECEx requirements.\nExperience with ERP systems, preferably Sage X3.\nExperience working with industrial customers and suppliers.\nAwareness of optics and their application in measurement instruments.\nOur Working Environment\nYou will join a collaborative international R&D team, working with colleagues across ENVEA's development centres in the UK, France, the US, Finland and Germany.\nWe use Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Office 365, JIRA and Confluence to support communication, project delivery and knowledge sharing, adopting agile working practices where appropriate.\nThe position is based at our Swavesey office in Cambridge, with opportunities to travel to other ENVEA R&D sites, suppliers and customer locations as required.\nWhat We Offer\nWe offer a supportive working environment, opportunities to contribute to innovative technologies and a benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.\nCompetitive salary -
