SBS provides a rewarding environment promoting flexibility, innovation, and commitment, and encourages leadership and achievement so employees can make a real difference.\nSBS, an Enverus company, is seeking a Staff Software Developer/Engineer to join our Distribution Tools team, reporting to Matthew Rickard, Director of Software Development.\nThe Distribution Tools team builds and maintains SBS’s desktop design and engineering tools, focused on the electric and gas distribution market. The Staff Software Developer/Engineer is a senior technical leader who sets direction for complex, cross-cutting work on the platform, shapes architecture across the team’s product line, and multiplies the impact of the engineers around them through mentorship and review.\nPerformance Objectives\n\nOwn delivery of the most complex and highest-risk features and enhancements, from requirements through production. \nTranslate ambiguous product needs into sound technical plans with clear milestones and risk assessment. \nLead performance, correctness, and reliability work where engineering accuracy for utility design is non-negotiable. \nUse AI coding assistants daily, and set the standard for reviewing, testing, and owning AI-generated code before it ships. \nMentor senior, mid-level, and early-career engineers on design, code quality, and engineering judgment. \nLead peer design and code reviews, raising the quality bar across the team. \nPartner with the delivery organization on customer-specific configuration, favoring reusable patterns over one-off customizations. \nHelp define coding standards, CI/CD practices, and AI-assisted development guidelines for the Distribution Tools group. \nWork with product management, QA, and delivery to shape roadmaps and estimate scope. \nRepresent the Distribution Tools team in cross-team architecture discussions. \nParticipate in Scrum sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives, and contribute to program-level planning. \nCompetitive Candidate Profile\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). \n8+ years of professional software development experience, including sustained technical leadership on complex systems. \nDemonstrated record of designing and shipping large desktop and/or service-based applications. \nExperience leading or mentoring engineers, through formal or informal roles. \nStrong communication skills, including writing design documents and presenting trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders. \nDesire to work on software used by utilities and energy infrastructure organizations. \nExperience defining AI-assisted development practices for an engineering team. \nPreferred Experience\nBackground in electric or gas distribution design, or CAD-based engineering tools. \nHands-on experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS, GE SmallWorld, Intergraph G/Technology) or EAM systems (SAP, IBM
