Customers receive innovative and sustainable solutions that safeguard the environment, protect people and keep their organizations compliant.\n Position Summary\nThe Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of large mobile equipment used to support steel-mill operations. This role plays a critical part in material movement, production support, and site safety. Operators work in a demanding industrial environment where strict safety compliance and operational precision are essential.\nKey Responsibilities\nSafely operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, material handlers, haul trucks, and other support equipment\nSupport steel-mill operations through material handling activities, including slag, scrap metal, raw materials, and finished by-products\nPerform pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns\nOperate equipment in compliance with company policies, site procedures, and all applicable safety regulations\nMaintain awareness of surroundings while working in active mill areas with moving equipment, rail traffic, and high-temperature processes\nCommunicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and maintenance personnel\nMaintain clean, organized work areas and equipment cabs\nComplete required production, inspection, and equipment operation documentation\nParticipate in safety meetings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and ongoing training programs\nAssist with basic equipment care and minor operational adjustments as trained\n Required Qualifications\nHigh School Diploma or GED preferred\nMinimum 1-3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial, steel-mill, mining, construction, or related environment\nDemonstrated ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently\nStrong commitment to safety and compliance with workplace policies\nAbility to understand and follow written and verbal instructions\nWillingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required\nValid driver’s license; additional equipment certifications preferred\nPhysical & Work Environment Requirements\nAbility to work outdoors in all weather conditions\nAbility to climb onto and off equipment, work at heights, and sit for extended periods\nTolerance for heat, noise, dust, vibration, and industrial operating conditions\nAbility to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience working within active steel-mill or industrial processing environments\nFamiliarity with slag handling, materials logistics, or rail-based operations\nEquipment certifications or documented training\nBasic mechanical knowledge for identifying operational issues\n .“We offer competitive benefits, including health insurance, life insurance and disability plans, as well as a 401k with company matching.\nHarsco is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
