We also have developed a range of by-products for specialized applications across industry, construction and agriculture, which utilize Harsco’s expertise in mineral materials.\n$24.59 per hour\nPosition Summary\nThe Utility Operator is responsible for performing a variety of labor, equipment support, and clean up duties in and around steel mill operations. This position supports the safe and efficient execution of environmental and mill service activities, including material handling, cleanup, equipment operation, and general site maintenance. Utility Operators work in a heavy industrial environment and are expected to follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nPerform general labor and housekeeping activities throughout the steel mill and worksite.\nRemove, collect, and transport slag, scrap, debris, and other byproducts generated from steelmaking operations.\nAssist equipment operators and other team members with daily production activities.\nOperate mobile equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, water trucks, sweepers, and other assigned equipment when qualified.\nConduct routine inspections of equipment and report defects, safety concerns, or maintenance needs.\nPerform shoveling, sweeping, pressure washing, and other cleaning tasks in production and operational areas.\nAssist with loading, unloading, and transporting materials as required.\nFollow all lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and other safety procedures.\nMaintain compliance with company environmental policies and customer site requirements.\nWork effectively as part of a team to support mill operations and meet production goals.\nParticipate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nPerform other duties as assigned by supervisors or management.\nThis role requires that the employee be alert and drug free at all times for the safety of the employee and his co-workers. This is a steel mill environment with large mobile equipment operating in the vicinity of employee. This person operates equipment in all areas of a busy steel mill. Must be able to climb in and out of the equipment, which involves several steps and ladders, may be required to shift gears manually, and work a 12 hour per day work shift both daytime and nighttime. Is subjected to all types of weather when he is outside of the vehicle and also is subject to uneven surfaces with loose materials when walking. When the equipment is not required, employee may be re-assigned to other large off road mobile equipment or may be required to perform manual laboring duties such as clean up, shoveling, etc.\n Required Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or GED preferred.\nAbility to work safely in a heavy industrial environment.\nAbility to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.\nWillingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.\nAbility to work in varying weather conditions and around heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.\nStrong attendance and reliability record.\nAbility to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrevious experience in steel mills, manufacturing, construction, mining, industrial services, or heavy equipment operations.\nExperience operating mobile equipment.\nBasic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.\nValid driver's license.\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching.\nAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and respiratory protection when required.\nAbility to work around extreme temperatures, dust, vibration, and noise.\nWork Environment\nThe Utility Operator works primarily in an outdoor and industrial steel mill environment. Employees are regularly exposed to moving machinery, heavy equipment traffic, elevated work areas, and high-temperature processes.
