Flying lower than traditional satellites lets us capture sharper, more timely data, giving commercial and defense customers a clearer picture of a rapidly changing world, faster than ever before.\nBased in Lafayette, Colorado, we’re a small, mission-driven team moving fast to bring this capability to market. As we scale toward Series B and beyond, we’re looking for people who want real ownership over their function and see the undefined parts of this stage as the opportunity, not the obstacle.\nAbout the Role\nWe’re working toward a number of industry firsts, and that takes a team willing to dig into hard problems, get hands-on, and work well together. EOI Space is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to build the software and firmware that runs on our satellites: embedded Linux on the payload processor, bare-metal control loops on the microcontrollers, and the FPGA logic underneath. We care more about how you think and how fast you learn than whether you’ve already used our exact toolchain, so deep experience across this stack is great, but solid embedded fundamentals and a real willingness to learn the rest will get our attention too.\nYou will design, write, and test the flight software and firmware for our next-generation spacecraft. You will work at the boundary between hardware and software: sitting with electrical engineers during board bring-up, reading schematics and datasheets, and tracing problems down to the register level when needed. You will collaborate across systems engineering, manufacturing, and test to deliver flight-ready software for satellite integration. This is a hands-on role in a lean and collaborative environment, and you will own meaningful pieces of the vehicle early. This role reports to the Director of Software. \nThis is a full-time, exempt, in-office position based in Lafayette, Colorado.\nResponsibilities:\nDevelop and maintain embedded Linux software on Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ platforms, including Yocto layers and recipes, BSP and device tree work, kernel drivers, and userspace applications.\nWrite and test bare-metal firmware for TI C2000 microcontrollers, including real-time control loops, peripheral configuration, and communications interfaces.\nDevelop and verify FPGA logic in Verilog for Xilinx and Microchip devices, including the interfaces between programmable logic and the processing system.\nBring up new hardware alongside our electrical engineers, including first boot, driver bring-up, and debugging with JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.\nBuild and improve the tooling that surrounds flight software, including build systems, version control practices, hardware-in-the-loop test benches, and automated regression.\nCollaborate with systems, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to ensure software and hardware come together cleanly.\nLead root cause investigations and system-level troubleshooting in both lab and on-orbit environments.\nDevelop and maintain technical documentation, including interface control documents (ICDs), register maps, software design descriptions, and test plans.\nSupport integration, environmental test, and launch campaigns, and help operate the software you wrote once it is on orbit.\nAdditional duties as assigned\n\nWhat We’re Looking For-\nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor’s Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience.\n4-6 years of hands-on embedded software or firmware development. A sharp engineer earlier in their career who learns quickly will be considered alongside candidates with a decade of experience.\nStrong C, and C++ where it fits, in resource-constrained and real-time environments.\nComfort working directly against hardware: reading schematics and datasheets, using JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers, and reasoning about what the silicon is actually doing.\nExperience with, or a demonstrated ability and willingness to ramp quickly on, one or more of: Zynq UltraScale+ with Yocto-based embedded Linux, TI C2000 bare-metal firmware, and Verilog FPGA development for Xilinx and Microchip parts.\nComfortable with ambiguity. Much of this work is new, specifications are incomplete, and the right answer is often found by building something and testing it.\nStrong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nCollaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment.\nAuthorized to work as a U.S. Person.\n\nHighly Preferred:\nZephyr RTOS, or other RTOS experience such as FreeRTOS.\nOther microcontroller families, including ARM Cortex-M, STM32, MSP430, or similar.\nYocto and OpenEmbedded layer authoring, U-Boot, and Linux device driver development.\nEmbedded communications and high-speed interfaces: AXI, SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, SpaceWire.\nReal-time power or motor control firmware, including PWM generation, ADC sequencing, and closed-loop control.\nSpace, avionics, or other high-reliability software experience, including fault detection, isolation, and recovery (FDIR) and radiation-tolerant design practices.\nPython for test automation, ground software, and data analysis.\nTiming analysis, constraint writing, and simulation for FPGA designs.\nPassion for building and cultivating positive relationships with team members and external vendors.\nContinuous improvement mindset, with a drive for building and maintaining scalable and sustainable processes.\nPeople-first approach that contributes to a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere within the organization.\nPhysical/Mental Demands & Work Environment:\nRequires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment\nPerforms highly complex and varied tasks requiring independent knowledge and its application to a variety of situations, as well as exercising independent judgement\nRequires the use of office equipment such as a computer and telephone\nMay view computer screens for prolonged periods of time\nMust be able to prioritize activities when faced with competing demands\nThis position requires the skill set to work independently, exercising sound judgement while maintaining high productivity levels\nRequires elevated levels of electronic and telephone communication\nCompensation:\nWe believe in compensating our team fairly for the expertise and ownership this role demands. The base salary range for this position is $133,000-$187,000, plus equity, reflecting both the specialized skillset we’re looking for and our commitment to growing alongside the people who help us get there. Final offers are based on experience, qualifications, and the value you bring to our mission.\n\nWhat sets EOI Space apart?\nAt EOI Space, we are committed to fostering a supportive and enjoyable work environment. We believe in a healthy work/life harmony that not only allows you to excel while you’re here but also ensures you feel supported when you’re away. \nBenefits-\nHere’s what we offer full-time employees:\nMedical, Dental, Vision Insurance\nEmployer-funded Life Insurance\nEmployer-funded Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance\nEquity Option Grants\nUnlimited time off\nCompetitive wage aligned with experience\nProfessional development opportunities\nCollaborative, supportive environment and company culture\nSocial opportunities to engage with colleagues\nOpportunity to contribute to cutting-edge space technology industry while maintaining work-life balance\n\nOur Commitment:\nWe believe that you are the key to our success. Your unique background, life experiences, knowledge, self-expression, and talents make you who you are. Your individuality, experiences, and perspectives inspire us. \nEOI Space is an equal-opportunity employer. We value the unique contributions you bring through your education, opinions, culture, ethnicity, race, ancestry, sex, gender identity and expression, national origin, citizenship, marital status, age, languages spoken, veteran status, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and beliefs. \nInterested?
