EP Commodities se specializuje na trading s energetickými komoditami – zemním plynem, elektrickou energií, emisními povolenkami, uhlím a ostatními produkty.

EP Commodities AG is looking for a Quantitative Analyst to join its Portfolio Management team. The core focus of this role is the development and continuous improvement of quantitative models for optimizing, valuing and hedging physical energy assets within the EPH Group, including thermal power plants. The Analyst will work on complex optimization problems involving technical constraints, uncertain market conditions and long-term portfolio risks. In close collaboration with Portfolio Managers and other stakeholders, the new team member will translate quantitative analysis into practical tools and recommendations that support daily decision-making and enhance portfolio value.

What you will be doing:

1. Quantitative modelling and optimization

  • develop and maintain quantitative models and methods for operational optimization, asset valuation, risk assessment and long-term hedging under complex technical and commercial constraints
  • design algorithms and tools that connect short-term operational decisions with longer-term portfolio and hedging strategies
  • analyze how asset values and performance respond to changes in power, gas, carbon and other relevant market drivers

2. Model implementation and decision support

  • develop and maintain reliable analytical workflows and tools using market data, forecasts and asset information
  • convert model results into clear, practical outputs for Portfolio Managers and trading teams
  • work with users of the tools to ensure that methodologies and results are properly understood and applied
  • adjust models and recommendations as market conditions, asset constraints and business requirements evolve

3. Model validation and performance analysis

  • evaluate model outputs against actual asset and portfolio performance
  • analyze the effectiveness of dispatch and hedging strategies and identify the main drivers of results
  • investigate deviations between expected and realized outcomes and recommend improvements where appropriate
  • communicate results and recommendations clearly to both quantitative and non-quantitative stakeholders

Who we´re looking for:

  • university degree in a relevant quantitative field, such as Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, etc.
  • relevant professional experience in quantitative analysis, mathematical optimization, operations research, data science, algorithm development or a related area
  • professional experience in the energy sector, preferably in power generation, energy markets, commodity trading or portfolio management.
  • strong mathematical, statistical and analytical skills, with hands-on experience in mathematical programming and optimization using Python
  • ability to structure complex problems, challenge assumptions and translate analysis into practical recommendations, with strong attention to detail and awareness of financial and operational risks
  • ability to work effectively and independently in a collaborative environment.

Preferred experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is beneficial but not required:

  • power-plant dispatch or other physical-asset optimization problems
  • derivatives, option valuation or hedging strategies
  • time-series analysis, forecasting or simulation-based modelling
  • development of production-quality analytical pipelines and tools
