Epassi has been recognised by the Financial Times as one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe on multiple occasions.\nWe are currently hiring a Software Engineer (Java) based in Milan (hybrid work).\nYour mission at Epassi\nYou will report to the Head of Engineering Italy and join a backend engineering team. You'll own your service areas end-to-end - from design through to production and collaborate closely with mobile and web engineers to ship features that are reliable, well-documented, and built to last.\nThis is a hands-on technical role for someone who takes quality seriously, integrates well into a team, and doesn't need close supervision to deliver. Your work will directly power Epassi's B2C consumer and B2B merchant platforms.\nYour responsibilities will be:\nBuild and maintain Java-based microservices that power both the B2C and B2B platforms, following API-first principles\nDeliver features end-to-end, from implementation through testing and release\nDesign clean, well-documented REST APIs consumed by web and mobile clients, with backward compatibility and versioning discipline\nAlign on API contracts, data models, and integration patterns early in the development cycle\nWrite unit and integration tests that give the team genuine confidence in what you ship\nOwn incidents within your service areas, contribute to post-mortems, and follow through on fixes\nParticipate actively in code review, maintaining and helping refine team engineering standards\nIdentify and address technical debt within your service areas as your confidence in the codebase grows\nYou'll be successful in this role if you:\nDeliver features end-to-end without close supervision, fully autonomous on the team's stack within your first 6 - 12 months\nShip APIs that are well-documented, consistent with team conventions, and require minimal rework after review\nEarn positive feedback from mobile and web engineers - integration issues caught early, not at delivery\nContribute meaningfully to at least one cross-cutting improvement, whether in testing, observability, tooling, or performance\nWhat you should bring:\n3+ years of professional backend engineering experience building production services in Java\nHands-on experience with microservices using Spring Boot or equivalent framework\nSolid understanding of REST API design, including versioning, error handling, and OpenAPI documentation\nWorking knowledge of AWS core services in a production context -
