This role performs a broad range of maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational activities across critical facility systems, applying technical knowledge and sound judgment to resolve issues and support continuous operations.\nWorking as part of a collaborative team, the engineer operates with a good degree of independence, contributes to infrastructure improvements, and supports the development of less experienced team members while helping maintain high standards of safety and operational excellence.\nResponsibilities\nFacility / Infrastructure Maintenance\nPerform preventive and corrective maintenance on critical facility systems and equipment to support reliable and continuous data center operations.\nExecute repairs, inspections, installations, and maintenance activities across electrical, mechanical, cooling, and supporting facility infrastructure.\nMonitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and respond to alarms, applying technical knowledge and judgment to investigate and resolve issues in accordance with established procedures.\nOperate and support critical infrastructure, including electrical power, mechanical and cooling, plumbing, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.\nIdentify equipment issues, operational risks, and potential infrastructure constraints, escalating higher-risk situations when appropriate.\nSupport energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve facility performance.\nCarry out day-to-day operational activities with limited supervision while seeking guidance for complex or high-risk situations.\nVendor Support\nCoordinate and oversee vendors and service providers performing maintenance and infrastructure activities within the data center.\nSupport the work approval process, including pre-work briefings, reviewing planned activities, monitoring execution, and validating completed work.\nEnsure vendor activities are performed in accordance with site procedures, safety requirements, and operational standards.\nWork with vendors to maintain accurate technical documentation, equipment records, drawings, and asset information.\nSite Administration & Incident Support\nPrepare and maintain site documentation, permits, logs, and operational records, including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and operational scripts.\nIdentify Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and operational risks and provide recommendations to improve infrastructure resilience.\nRespond to equipment failures, operational issues, and site incidents in accordance with established incident management procedures.\nSupport incident investigation and root cause analysis activities and contribute recommendations for corrective actions.\nApply strong knowledge of operational procedures and compliance requirements to support safe and effective site operations.\nWork Orders & Additional Projects\nComplete facility-related work orders and support infrastructure installations and modifications.\nTroubleshoot facility equipment and supporting systems to identify faults and minimize downtime.\nSupport approved modifications to electrical, mechanical, cooling, and specialized systems.\nParticipate in infrastructure upgrades, lifecycle replacement programs, maintenance initiatives, and site improvement projects.\nRecommend practical improvements that enhance infrastructure reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.\nCollaboration\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve facility issues and support operational activities.\nProvide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior team members on maintenance activities and operational procedures.\nCommunicate inventory and critical spare-part requirements to support operational readiness.\nWork closely with senior engineers during complex maintenance activities, incidents, and infrastructure projects.\nContribute ideas and recommendations that improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and overall site performance.\nQualifications\nEducation & Experience\nDegree, Diploma, technical certification, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent practical experience is also valued.\nTypically 3-5 years of relevant experience in critical facilities, data center operations, facilities maintenance, industrial facilities, building operations, or a related technical environment.\nPreferred Skills & Experience\nGood working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, cooling, or building infrastructure systems.\nExperience performing preventive and corrective maintenance in a data center or other high-availability environment is advantageous.\nFamiliarity with BMS or facility monitoring systems, maintenance procedures, and safe work practices.\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.\nAbility to identify risks, evaluate operational issues, and recommend appropriate actions.\nEffective communication and collaboration skills.\nCommitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning.\nWork Requirements\nAbility to perform hands-on operational and maintenance tasks within a data center environment.\nAbility to work at height and in confined or tight spaces where required.\nAbility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules, as required to support 24x7 mission-critical data center operations.\nEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
