This role performs a range of maintenance, monitoring, and operational activities while developing technical expertise across critical facility systems.\nWorking as part of a collaborative team, the engineer helps maintain safe, reliable, and efficient data center operations while building hands-on experience across electrical, mechanical, cooling, and facility systems.\nResponsibilities\nFacility / Infrastructure Maintenance\nPerform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems and equipment to support reliable and continuous operations.\nCarry out repairs, inspections, installations, and maintenance activities across critical facility infrastructure in accordance with established procedures.\nMonitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and respond to alarms by investigating issues and supporting resolution activities.\nSupport the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, cooling, plumbing, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.\nIdentify equipment issues and potential operational risks and escalate concerns appropriately.\nSupport energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives through maintenance activities and operational best practices.\nCarry out day-to-day operational activities independently while seeking guidance for complex or unfamiliar situations.\nVendor Support\nCoordinate with vendors and service providers performing maintenance and infrastructure activities within the data center.\nSupport the work approval process, including pre-work briefings, monitoring work execution, and reviewing completed work.\nEnsure vendor activities are performed in accordance with site procedures, safety requirements, and operational standards.\nAssist with maintaining technical documentation, equipment records, and asset information.\nSite Administration & Incident Support\nPrepare and maintain site documentation, logs, and permits, including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and operational scripts.\nIdentify potential infrastructure risks and Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and communicate observations to senior team members.\nRespond to equipment failures, operational issues, and site incidents in accordance with established procedures.\nSupport incident investigations and documentation activities to improve operational reliability.\nApply operating procedures and compliance requirements to support safe and effective site operations.\nWork Orders & Additional Projects\nComplete facility-related work orders and support infrastructure installation activities.\nTroubleshoot and maintain facility equipment and supporting systems to minimize downtime.\nAssist with approved modifications to electrical, mechanical, and facility systems.\nParticipate in infrastructure projects, maintenance programs, lifecycle replacement activities, and site improvements.\nSupport continuous improvement efforts that enhance reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.\nCollaboration\nWork closely with cross-functional teams to support operational activities and resolve facility issues.\nShare knowledge and assist team members during maintenance activities and operational events.\nCommunicate inventory and spare-part requirements to support operational readiness.\nParticipate in training and development opportunities to expand technical capabilities and career growth.\nContribute ideas and recommendations that support operational excellence and continuous improvement.\nQualifications\nEducation & Experience\nDegree, Diploma, technical certification, or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent practical experience is also valued.\nTypically 1-3 years of relevant experience in critical facilities, data center operations, facilities maintenance, industrial facilities, building operations, or a related technical environment.\nPreferred Skills & Experience\nFoundational understanding of electrical, mechanical, cooling, or building systems.\nFamiliarity with preventive and corrective maintenance practices, facility monitoring systems, and safe work procedures.\nGood troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to safety.\nAbility to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.\nInterest in developing technical expertise within a mission-critical data center environment.\nWork Requirements\nAbility to perform hands-on operational and maintenance tasks within a data center environment.\nAbility to work at height and in confined or tight spaces where required.\nAbility to work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and shift-based schedules, as required to support 24x7 mission-critical data center operations.\nEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
