This role performs a broad range of maintenance and operational activities while applying technical knowledge and established procedures to resolve issues and support site operations. Working as part of a collaborative team, the engineer helps ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations while continuing to develop expertise across critical facility systems.\nResponsibilities\nFacility / Infrastructure Maintenance\nPerform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems and equipment to support reliable operations.\n\nCarry out repairs, inspections, and installation activities across facility infrastructure in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.\n\nMonitor the Building Monitoring System (BMS) and respond to alarms by investigating issues and supporting resolution efforts.\n\nSupport the operation and maintenance of critical infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, cooling, plumbing, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.\n\nAssist with energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities and supporting implementation activities.\n\nPerform day-to-day operational tasks independently while seeking guidance on more complex or unfamiliar situations.\n\nVendor Support\nCoordinate with vendors and service providers performing maintenance activities within the data center.\n\nSupport the work approval process, including pre-work briefings, monitoring activities, and confirming completion of work.\n\nEnsure vendor activities are conducted in accordance with site procedures, safety requirements, and operational standards.\n\nAssist in maintaining accurate technical documentation, records, and asset information.\n\nSite Administration & Incident Support\nPrepare and maintain site documentation, permits, logs, and records, including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs) and operational scripts.\n\nIdentify potential infrastructure risks and Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and raise recommendations for review.\n\nRespond to site incidents, equipment failures, and operational issues in accordance with established procedures.\n\nSupport incident investigations and documentation activities to improve operational reliability and resilience.\n\nApply operating procedures and compliance requirements to support safe and effective site operations.\n\nWork Orders & Additional Projects\nComplete operational work orders and support system installations related to facility infrastructure.\n\nTroubleshoot and maintain auxiliary systems and supporting equipment to minimize operational impact.\n\nSupport approved changes to mechanical, electrical, and specialized systems.\n\nParticipate in infrastructure upgrades, maintenance programs, lifecycle replacement initiatives, and site improvement projects.\n\nContribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance operational performance and reliability.\n\nCollaboration\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational activities and resolve facility issues.\n\nShare knowledge and support team members during maintenance activities and operational events.\n\nCommunicate inventory and spare-parts requirements to maintain operational readiness.\n\nParticipate in training and development activities to expand technical capabilities and support career growth.\n\nQualifications\nEducation & Experience\nDiploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience is also valued.\n\nTypically 1-3 years of experience in critical facilities, facilities operations, data center operations, industrial facilities, building operations, or a related technical environment.\n\nPreferred Skills & Experience\nUnderstanding of electrical, mechanical, cooling, or building systems.\n\nFamiliarity with maintenance procedures, facility monitoring systems, and safe work practices.\n\nStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\n\nAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.\n\nCommitment to safety, operational excellence, and continuous learning.\n\nWork Requirements\nAbility to perform hands-on operational and maintenance tasks within a data center environment.\n\nAbility to work at height and in confined or tight spaces where required.\n\nAbility to work non-standard hours, including shift-based schedules, weekends, night shifts, and public holidays to support 24x7 mission-critical data center operations.\n\nEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
