This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management, technical strategy, and architectural oversight. The successful candidate will remain actively engaged in design reviews, complex technical decisions, incident response, and selected engineering initiatives while building a high-performing team.\n\nPeople & Technical Leadership\n\nLead, coach, and develop platform engineers and technical leads, setting clear expectations for ownership, quality, and delivery.\nDrive career growth through mentoring, feedback, and succession planning.\nProvide technical leadership through architecture reviews, engineering standards, and critical design decisions.\nBalance strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement without becoming a delivery bottleneck.\n\nPlatform Strategy & Architecture\n\nDefine and execute the platform roadmap covering cloud infrastructure, developer experience, automation, and reliability.\nLead architectural direction across cloud services, Kubernetes, networking, identity, and platform capabilities.\nBuild scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-efficient platforms and reusable engineering patterns.\nPartner with engineering, security, networking, and product teams to ensure technical alignment.\n\nDeveloper Platform & Automation\n\nDrive self-service platform capabilities, developer tooling, and standardized engineering workflows.\nImprove productivity through automation of provisioning, deployment, testing, and operational processes.\nChampion Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Terragrunt), engineering standards, and governance.\n\nDevSecOps & Reliability\n\nEstablish secure CI/CD and GitOps practices across software delivery pipelines.\nEmbed security and compliance controls into engineering workflows.\nDrive service ownership, observability, SLO adoption, incident management, and operational excellence.\nParticipate in major incidents, technical troubleshooting, and post-incident reviews.\n\nDelivery & Stakeholder Management\n\nOwn delivery of strategic platform initiatives, managing priorities, dependencies, and risks.\nCommunicate roadmap progress, technical trade-offs, and operational health to senior stakeholders.\nPartner with FinOps and Finance to optimize cloud cost visibility, efficiency, and accountability.\n\nHands-On Expectations\n\nMaintain practical expertise in IaC, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and automation technologies.\nContribute to complex troubleshooting, platform modernization, migrations, and critical engineering initiatives as needed.\nTypically spend 20-30% of time on technical leadership and engineering activities.\n\nQualifications\n\n12+ years of experience across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or software engineering.\n3-5+ years of engineering management experience.\nRecent hands-on experience building or operating cloud platforms in production.\nStrong expertise with Terraform/Terragrunt, Kubernetes, and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).\nExperience with CI/CD, GitOps, DevSecOps, observability, incident management, and reliability engineering.\nProgramming or scripting experience in Python, Go, or Bash.\nAbility to balance delivery, reliability, security, developer experience, and cost optimization.\nProven track record influencing technical strategy across multiple engineering teams.\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience with internal developer platforms (e.g., Backstage).\nMulti-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.\nLarge-scale platform transformations or cloud migrations.\nExposure to Kafka, Redis, managed data services, or regulated environments.\nRelevant cloud, Kubernetes, or security certifications.\n\nMeasures of Success\n\nHigh-performing, engaged engineering teams.\nImproved platform reliability, operational efficiency, and service adoption.\nIncreased developer productivity through self-service capabilities and automation.\nReduced operational toil, manual processes, and recurring incidents.\nImproved cloud cost efficiency and security posture.\nPredictable delivery and strong cross-functional stakeholder alignment.\n\nEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
