You will hire and grow the team, own delivery and program management, and set technical direction for how network telemetry, asset data, and network APIs are built, operated, and exposed to internal operators, customers, and AI agents.\nThis is a player-coach leadership role. You will partner with the global Network Observability leadership, product, platform architecture, and Network operations stakeholders across time zones, and you will establish the engineering practices, culture, and operating rhythm of the India team from day one.\nResponsibilities\nPeople Management & Team Building\nHire, onboard, and retain engineers across levels, and build a team with deep network software and observability expertise\nOwn performance management for direct reports, including the GPS process, Total Rewards allocation, quarterly conversations, career pathways, and individual development plans\nCoach engineers on technical growth and engineering craft, and build a pipeline of future tech leads\nModel Equinix culture and values, and ensure the team operates in line with local labor law and regulations\nProgram & Project Management\nOwn end-to-end delivery of Network API and telemetry projects, including major, minor, and patch releases\nWork with Technical Project Managers, product engineering managers, and portfolio leads across locations\nIdentify delivery risks early, propose mitigations, and escalate with clear options\nManage resource allocation, utilization, and budget; request approvals for spend or headcount outside the approved plan\nReport project status, KPIs, and resource data to senior management\nResponsible for the planning of strategic priorities\nResponsible for developing and communicating a roadmap of projects and initiatives to project/functional stakeholders\nTechnical Leadership & Architecture\nParticipate in and drive architecture and design reviews for Network API and telemetry platforms\nEnsure designs integrate streaming telemetry, flow data, SNMP, topology, and inventory data into reliable, queryable, well-governed API/Streaming and MCP interfaces\nGuide API design standards (REST, gRPC, GraphQL), data modeling, versioning, and contract testing\nChampion code quality, peer review, testing strategy, and CI/CD practices\nPartner with global teams to adopt AI-native patterns, such as exposing network capabilities through MCP servers and agent-ready APIs\nWorks with SRE and Platform team on sizing and requesting infrastructure requirement for observability\nOperational Excellence & Reliability and Reporting\nOwn production health for the team’s services, including SLOs, on-call practices, runbooks, and incident response\nUtilizes subject matter expertise to implement improvements to internal processes and integrate systems supporting these processes\nLead troubleshooting for critical issues with cross-functional teams, and oversee RCA cycles and repeat-issue remediation\nDrive improvements to observability pipelines, alerting quality, data accuracy, and platform scalability\nCollects, analyzes, organizes and presents the data to senior management on projects and resources\nExecutes against operational KPIs\nStakeholder & Customer Engagement\nPartner with product management, Ops, X-functional engineering, and platform teams to translate requirements into roadmaps and commitments\nManage stakeholder communication, conflict resolution, escalations, and priority shifts\nRepresent the India team in global forums, and maintain strong working overlap with US and EMEA counterparts\nRoadmap, Process & Innovation\nDevelop and communicate the team’s roadmap and strategic priorities\nCreate and refine processes, standards, and policies, and monitor adherence\nDrive innovation, such as anomaly detection, natural-language network queries, and AI-assisted troubleshooting, and encourage the team to prototype and share learnings\nQualifications\nRequired\n10+ years of software engineering experience, 2+ years in a software development leadership role (people management of engineers)\nHands-on background in network software systems, especially network observability or telemetry platforms, NMS/EMS, or network automation and inventory systems\nWorking knowledge of network concepts (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, topology modelling) and network data sources (SNMP, streaming telemetry/gNMI, NetFlow/IPFIX, syslog)\nExperience with observability and streaming technologies such as Kafka, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Loki, or equivalents\nStrong engineering background in Python, or Java, and experience designing and operating production APIs at scale\nExperience with program management: planning, estimation, risk management, release management, and reporting to senior leadership\nExcellent communication skills and experience collaborating across time zones with global stakeholders\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience\nPreferred\nExperience with telecom, service provider, data center, or interconnection platforms (e.g., Equinix Fabric, Network Edge)\nFamiliarity with CMDB/DCIM, network inventory, or graph-based topology systems\nExposure to AI-native development: LLM tool calling, agent frameworks, Model Context Protocol (MCP), RAG\nExperience with vendor or consulting resource management\nPrior experience setting up or scaling a new engineering site or team\nWhat You’ll Own\nA high-performing India engineering team, hired and grown by you\nNetwork API and telemetry services that are reliable, well-documented, and consumed by humans and AI agents\nA predictable delivery and operating cadence with global partners\nThe technical and people foundation for the India site's long-term role in Network Observability\nEquinix is committed to ensuring that our employment process is open to all individuals, including those with a disability.
