This role will involve performing routine groundskeeping tasks like mowing, weed whacking, and snow removal, as well as facilities maintenance projects like painting, minor renovation, and light repair.\nThis position is full-time at NSF Indian Head and the Stump Neck Annex. Indian Head, Maryland, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, D.C., 25 miles from Alexandria, Virginia, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia.\nSuccessful candidates will be assigned a day shift of either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.\nJob Description:\nPerform groundskeeping duties, including mowing, edge trimming, weed whacking, and debris removal\nConduct snow removal operations, including shoveling, salting, and operating snow removal equipment \nPerform light chainsaw and debris removal work from the ground level\nAssist with facilities maintenance projects such as painting, minor renovation, and light repair \nRespond to groundskeeping and facilities maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and efficient manner\nComply with safety regulations and building codes\nAssist with emergency repairs and respond to urgent situations as needed\nQualifications & Skills:\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required\n1+ years of experience with landscaping equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, snow blowers) \nFamiliarity with state and local building codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, and National Fire Protection Association standards is a plus\nExperience operating vehicles and moving equipment such as cars, trucks, trailers, and containers\nWillingness to learn forklift and mobile elevated work platform operation (training will be provided) \nBasic trades experience or working knowledge in carpentry, flooring, drywall, painting, roofing, concrete/masonry work, basic electrical work, or plumbing\nStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills \nAbility to work independently and as part of a team\nMust possess valid U.S. work authorization and a valid REAL ID Driver's License\nMust pass a pre-employment physical exam and participate in a medical surveillance program for the duration of employment\nMust pass a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug tests for the duration of employment\nThis position requires lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds\nWork may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)\nYou may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs\nMust be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach during shifts\nMust be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items\nMust be able to safely climb and descend ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms and perform work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet\nMust be able to perform work above shoulder level, including reaching, lifting, and manipulating tools and materials overhead\nSuccessful candidates will be required to receive a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) screening; please note that certain criminal convictions may impact eligibility and could preclude access to DBIDS credentials\nEmployees must maintain the ability to safely perform these essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, as a condition of employment.
