We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.\nPosition Summary:\nThe Commissioning Engineer is a field-capable technical engineer responsible for the design, integration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automation and controls systems used in ERock's distributed generation and microgrid projects. This role partners closely with the Commissioning Manager, A&C engineers, commissioning technicians, project engineering, EPC, O&M, NOC/SCADA, protection specialists, and customers. The position focuses on unique and medium-voltage sites, advanced controls integration, and converting first-of-kind solutions into repeatable standards and field-ready packages.\nKey Responsibilities:\nServe as a technical A&C partner to the Commissioning Manager, providing engineering support, field guidance, and timely escalation for complex commissioning issues.\nDevelop, review, and maintain control narratives, sequence-of-operation documents, permissive and interlock matrices, alarm lists, command and feedback definitions, point lists, I/O databases, Modbus maps, and controls test procedures.\nLead or support automation and controls commissioning for unique, medium-voltage, and advanced microgrid projects, including generator controls, GMCs, PLCs, SCADA, RTACs, protection interfaces, communications networks, and switchgear controls.\nReview electrical schematics, control wiring, termination schedules, panel drawings, network architectures, controller files, and vendor documentation for completeness and field readiness.\nParticipate in design reviews, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, pre-commissioning, functional testing, integrated system testing, startup, performance testing, and turnover activities.\nTroubleshoot controls, communications, sequencing, protection, indication, and system-integration issues in the office, laboratory, and field; identify root causes and implement durable corrective actions.\nWork directly with commissioning technicians to translate engineering intent into clear, executable field procedures, checklists, test scripts, and verification steps.\nSupport the Commissioning Manager with readiness reviews, prerequisite tracking, technical planning, staffing estimates, field mobilization, and closeout of commissioning deliverables.\nCoordinate with Engineering, EPC, project management, O&M, NOC/SCADA, third-party protection and testing providers, equipment manufacturers, and customers to resolve technical interfaces and field constraints.\nProvide technical leadership for first-of-kind controls work, including documenting design decisions, validating assumptions, capturing lessons learned, and developing reusable templates, logic standards, and commissioning packages.\nSupport controls simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, and laboratory testing initiatives intended to reduce field discovery and improve commissioning readiness.\nMaintain accurate redlines, as-left controller files, test records, issue logs, punch lists, and turnover evidence in accordance with ERock standards.\nSupport post-commissioning troubleshooting and operational handoff, including technician and operator training when required.\nPromote safe work practices, quality execution, disciplined change control, and professional communication with customers and internal teams.\nOther responsibilities as directed by supervisor.\nRequirements\n Basic (Required) Qualifications:\nMinimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in automation, controls, electrical systems, commissioning, system integration, or a related industrial discipline.\nBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, controls engineering, automation engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical field.\nDemonstrated experience with PLCs, industrial controllers, SCADA/HMI systems, industrial communications, instrumentation, control panels, and electrical/control-system documentation.\nExperience developing or reviewing control narratives, sequence logic, permissives, interlocks, alarm management, I/O lists, point mappings, functional test procedures, and commissioning records.\nExperience supporting FAT, SAT, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and turnover of industrial automation or electrical control systems.\nAbility to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, control wiring diagrams, P&IDs, network drawings, and vendor documentation.\nAbility to work safely and effectively in operating facilities, construction environments, electrical rooms, and active commissioning sites.\nWillingness and ability to travel to ERock project sites and provide field support, including occasional extended or nonstandard work schedules as project needs require.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to organize work across multiple concurrent projects.\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience with generator controls, paralleling systems, load sharing, synchronization, islanding, transfer systems, or distributed-generation microgrids.\nExperience with ComAp, Deep Sea Electronics, Woodward, DEIF, Basler, SEL, RTAC, or comparable generator, protection, or power-management platforms.\nExperience with low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear controls, breaker interlocks, protection interfaces, relay testing, and NETA or equivalent commissioning activities.\nExperience integrating GMCs, generator controllers, PLCs, SCADA, RTACs, protection relays, communications networks, and hardwired control interfaces.\nExperience leading first-of-kind controls development or converting custom project solutions into standardized designs, templates, or logic libraries.\nExperience with laboratory simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, signal injection, or controls validation before field deployment.\nPrior experience providing technical direction, coaching, or mentoring to engineers, technicians, contractors, or field personnel.\nProfessional Engineer license, Engineer-in-Training certification, or relevant industry certification.\n Benefits:\nCompetitive Pay\nMedical, Dental, Vision, and Prescription Drug Insurance\nCompany-Paid Life Insurance\nFlexible Spending Account (FSA)\nHealth Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution\nWellness Programs and Incentives\n401(k) Retirement Plan & Company Match\nPaid Time Off - Sick & Vacation Time\nPaid Holidays\nFlexible Work Schedule, as role requirements permit\nDo you have what it takes to join the ERock team?
