OSS plays a critical role in supporting and maintaining the Operational Technology (OT) systems that underpin the safe, reliable and real-time operation of Ireland’s electricity distribution network. These OT systems include SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), Network Management System (NMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS).\nThe Network Management System (NMS) is one of the core real-time OT systems, comprising of Outage Management System (OMS) and Distribution Management System (DMS). The DMS includes key applications such as:\nPower Flow\nNetwork Optimisation\nLoad Forecasting\nFault Location, Isolation & Service Restoration (FLISR)\nDistributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS)\nThese systems support day-to-day network operations and enable ESB Networks to integrate increasing levels of renewables, improve outage response and deliver enhanced grid intelligence.\nThe NMS Senior Engineer will be part of a high-performing technical team responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing the NMS. They will contribute to the delivery of new projects aligned with the strategic objectives of the DMSO and ensure the NMS continues to evolve in line with the needs of Network Operations and the wider business.\nKey Responsibilities\nSupport and maintain the 24/7 operation of the NMS for ESB Networks and the National Distribution Control Centre.\nEnsure the smooth rollout, stable performance and reliable day-to-day operation of the NMS.\nContribute to and support the delivery of new projects aligned with the strategic objectives of the DMSO, Operations and cross-functional teams-including workshops, requirements assessment, planning, implementation and testing.\nMaintain the network model through daily quality audits, issue identification and resolution.\nSupport system maintenance activities such as software upgrades, security patches and site-switch procedures.\nDevelop high-voltage (HV) standard configurations for generation and demand customers within the NMS and ensure accurate representation on the operational map.\nMonitor and support system interfaces to ensure seamless integration with the NMS and manage issue resolution when required.\nMaintain existing reporting and dashboards and develop new reporting solutions to support evolving business needs.\nProvide operational support to the business during critical service interruptions and major weather events.\nSupport the development and enhancement of the NMS to support ESB Networks’ strategic objectives for safe and effective distribution system management.\nEnsure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, standards and safety protocols.\nWork closely with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues and support operational needs.\nEngage in stakeholder management with internal teams, external partners and system vendors; liaise with the NMS vendor to ensure system quality, manage incidents and support defect resolution.\nDevelop and deliver training programmes to improve effective use of the NMS across the organisation.\nCreate and maintain NMS training materials, job aids, user guides and support documentation.\nDevelop functional specifications, operational procedures and processes for NMS operation and enhancement.\nSupport system risk management activities, including fault analysis and operational incident investigations.\nContribute to the design and implementation of advanced NMS and DMS applications.\nProvide support and collaboration to the OT Cybersecurity Manager.\nOffer operational expertise and guidance on NMS functionality to the wider DMSO team.\nSupervise and mentor junior team members, fostering collaboration, capability growth and knowledge sharing.\nExperience and Qualifications\nEssential\nMinimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in NMS, DMS/OMS, or related engineering roles.\nThird level qualification in an engineering, IT or technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.\nProven ability to deliver on the key responsibilities associated with supporting, maintaining and developing the NMS.\nStrong knowledge and hands-on experience with NMS components, including OMS, DMS, network operations and model management.\nDemonstrated understanding of HV and MV electrical networks, network operations and safety considerations.\nStrong understanding of mission-critical Operational Technology (OT) environments.\nExperience in testing OT systems and applications, including functional, integration and user acceptance testing.\nStrong work ethic with a commitment to delivering on safety, quality and time.\nAbility to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.\nSelf-starter with the ability to work independently while supporting colleagues and project teams.\nAbility to technically mentor and support junior team members.\nFlexible and adaptable approach, particularly when needed to support operational or customer requirements.\nExcellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across teams.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports and documentation.\nDesirable\nKnowledge and on experience in HV and MV electrical distribution systems.\nSkilled in managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Unix and Linux server environments.\nExperience in developing and supporting reporting solutions, data warehouses, and analytics workflows to enhance operational insight and decision-making.\nUnderstanding of OT network architecture, and system integration.\nProficient in Unix, Linux, and related operating systems, with experience supporting enterprise environments.\nWorking knowledge of Oracle NMS, with experience in configuration, support, or operational usage.\nLocation\nThis position will be based in Dublin, Leopardstown\nSmart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week.
