We're looking for a Linux Kernel Developer who's comfortable working deep in the stack - from drivers and subsystems to boot and memory management - and who wants to own kernel-level quality as our products scale.\nIn this role, you'll design, develop, and debug kernel code and low-level Linux components that power our hardware platforms. You'll work closely with embedded software engineers, systems engineers, and hardware teams to ensure our platforms are stable, performant, and production-ready.\nThis is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys solving hard problems close to the metal in a lean engineering organization.\nWhat you will do:\n* Design, develop, and maintain Linux kernel code, including drivers, subsystems, and kernel modules\n* Port, configure, and optimize the Linux kernel for custom hardware platforms\n* Write and maintain device drivers for a range of interfaces (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, USB, PCIe, Ethernet)\n* Debug and resolve kernel panics, race conditions, memory issues, and other low-level system failures\n* Profile and optimize kernel and driver performance, including boot time, latency, and power consumption\n* Work with bootloaders (e.g., U-Boot) and board bring-up for new hardware revisions\n* Collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring-up and hardware/software integration\n* Upstream patches where appropriate, and track relevant upstream kernel changes and CVEs\n* Contribute to kernel configuration, build systems (e.g., Yocto, Buildroot), and CI integration\n* Document kernel architecture decisions, driver interfaces, and debugging procedures in a way that's practical and reusable\nWhat you bring to this role:\n* 5+ years of experience developing in C, with deep familiarity with Linux kernel internals\n* Proven experience writing and debugging Linux device drivers and kernel modules\n* Solid understanding of:\n* Kernel subsystems (memory management, scheduling, filesystems, networking)\n* Linux boot process and bootloaders\n* Concurrency, locking, and interrupt handling in kernel space\n* Experience with embedded Linux build systems (Yocto, Buildroot, or similar)\n* Comfort working directly with hardware during bring-up, debugging with tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers\n* Strong debugging skills using tools such as gdb, ftrace, perf, kgdb, or crash dump analysis\n* Comfortable working independently and taking ownership in a lean startup environment\nBonus points for the following:\n*Upstream Linux kernel contribution experience\n* Experience with real-time Linux (PREEMPT_RT) or other real-time operating systems\n* Familiarity with security-hardening practices for embedded Linux (secure boot, kernel hardening)\n* Experience with version control systems (Git) and kernel patch workflows (mailing lists, git send-email)\n* Exposure to multiple CPU architectures (ARM, RISC-V, x86)\n* Experience with CI/CD pipelines for embedded or system-level software\nAdditional Requirements\nThis is a fast-paced, high-impact environment - flexibility to occasionally work extended hours or weekends during critical periods is expected.","description_format":"text","description_chars":3235,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space & Aerospace","Satellite Manufacturing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-01T08:47:55Z"},{"event":"reopen","at":"2026-10-14T07:11:13Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":17,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.473,"p_room":0.36,"age_days":92,"expected_fill_days":52,"reasons":["conf:0","stale_co","velocity","win:tail","crowd:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-17T05:46:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":225000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/espace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/espace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-17T10:19:54Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":13435,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-18T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":2438005},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=2438005"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fespace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fespace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fespace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/espace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fespace-linux-kernel-developer-mid-to-senior-level"}]}
