Summary\nThe Laboratory Technologist II is responsible to perform and provide analysis for low to high complex diagnostic testing in the relevant section and provide Phlebotomy services especially for difficult blood draws.\n Job Responsibilities 1\nActively participates in the technical and analytical work of the section.\nLiaises with the Team Lead on appropriateness of tests, results, and additional testing as required.\nMonitors, records, reports back results, and participates in discussions to rectify areas of concern if necessary.\nIdentifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either corrects the problem or notifies the Team Lead.\nResponds to questions/queries and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions, specimen requirements, test additions, priority changes (from routine to STAT and vice versa) and patient results.\nInvestigates and takes action to resolve the problems with analytical methods and equipment.\nCollects laboratory specimens and performs assigned laboratory procedures and other tests as necessary and immediately reports abnormal findings to appropriate staff.\nVerifies all critical results and documents with accurate follow-up.\nPerforms pediatric and adult phlebotomy.\nProvides phlebotomy support to other clinical units for patients with difficult veins.\nCollects venous and capillary blood, using precautions that ensure the safety of the patient and Laboratory staff.\nPerforms positive patient identification and records appropriate collection information in the Center information system or on the Laboratory requisition form.\nEnsures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance with JCI, CAP and ISO15189 guidelines.\nPerforms appropriate documentation of Laboratory procedures to assure the accuracy of Laboratory records.\nAssists the Team Lead in inventory management which includes stock monitoring and ordering.\nOperates complex automated Laboratory equipment, computer software, and precision instruments.\nIn liaison with the Team Lead, provides technical advice on, and assists in the selection / validation of new equipment.\n Job Responsibilities 2\nTakes responsibility for the maintenance and safe use of equipment within the section.\nUses Laboratory Information System (LIS) to generate workload statistics, run queries and assess quality of data according to defined criteria.\nResponsible for planning, performing, and evaluating Laboratory testing analysis and quality control.\nEnsures compliance to all policies and procedures.\nAdheres to KMC standards as per the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.\nAdheres to the Laboratory’s quality control policies and procedures and performs, reviews, and documents all quality control activities accordingly.\nHelps ensure the provision of a high quality, cost-effective service with the emphasis on quality assurance in all aspects of the section supervised by monitoring and audit of internal quality control.\nAscertains that quality control procedures are followed prior to releasing clinical data.\nReviews and evaluates quality control, proficiency, and competency.\nAdditional Responsibilities 3\nJob Knowledge & Skills\nExpert in pediatric and adult phlebotomy.\nFunctional knowledge and clinical experience in Clinical laboratories.\nKnowledge of and experience with Clinical laboratory safety and risks.\nKnowledge of ISO 15189/CAP/JCI standards and guidelines.\nDemonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills.\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office suite\n Job Experience\nMinimum 4 years’ experience in clinical laboratories as a licensed Clinical Scientist or Technologist (Required).\nMinimum 3 years of Phlebotomy experience in a pediatric hospital (Required)\nMinimum 3 years as a Technologist in a CAP or ISO15189 laboratory
