Employees are under general supervision.\nLearn more about Dr. Brooke Schmeichel here: https://schmeichel-lab.weebly.com/\nResponsibilities will include:\nDesign, execute, and analyze in vivo neuroscience experiments in rodent models of addiction,\nDesign and conduct cutting-edge experiments, lead independent research projects, and contribute to collaborative, multidisciplinary studies,\nEmploy advanced neuroscience techniques, which may include:o Fiber photometry for real-time neural activity monitoring,\no Chemogenetics for circuit manipulation,\no Neuroinflammation assays including immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and related approaches,\n\nSupervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate trainees,\nMaintain meticulous experimental records, data analysis pipelines, and prepare results for publication and presentation,\nCollaborate with lab members and external partners on ongoing projects,\nContribute to grant proposals, manuscript writing, and conference presentations,\nEnsure compliance with all laboratory safety regulations, controlled substances, and animal care protocols,\nOccasional evening, weekend, and holiday work,\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: \nKnowledge of basic laboratory methodology\nKnowledge of business English and arithmetic\nAbility to perform research projects\nAbility to gather and compile data\nAbility to communicate effectively\nAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees\nFamiliarity with Microsoft Office - especially Excel\nFamiliarity with Fluorescence Microscopy\nFamiliarity with grant writing and commitment to developing independent funding proposals.\nRequired Qualifications:\nPh.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field.\nStrong record of peer-reviewed publications.\nAdherence to ethical research principles.\nDemonstrated expertise in at least one of the following:Fiber photometry and/or chemogenetic approaches in rodents,\nNeuroinflammation research methods,\nAddiction behavioral assays in rodents.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nProficiency with relevant software for data acquisition and analysis (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Prism/GraphPad, EEG scoring software).\nStrong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.\nA strong trajectory towards research productivity.\nPrior experience in assisting with grant writing (strongly preferred).\nPhysical Demands:\nWork performed in an office-laboratory setting with occasional physical exertion.\nRequires standing or sitting for extended periods, handling animals, and operating equipment.\nManual dexterity and use of PPE are required in compliance with safety guidelines.\nStandard lab equipment, computer, and workspace provided.\nCompensation & Benefits: \nCommensurate with education and experience.\nFor information on benefits, please visit www.etsu.edu/human-resources/benefits/. \nApplication Requirements & Conditions:\nAttach the following documents: Cover Letter, Resume/CV, Transcripts, Statement of Research, and Three (3) References to include name, contact phone number, and email address.\nEmployment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.\nEmployment is contingent upon approved work authorization.\nEmployment is contingent upon sufficient grant funding.\nNon-Exempt positions are only required to be posted for a minimum of five (5) days.
