Headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites) is an intergovernmental organization responsible for establishing, maintaining, and operating Europe's systems of operational meteorological and Earth-observation satellites. The organization develops and manages advanced geostationary and polar-orbiting satellite fleets, delivering continuous weather data, imagery, and atmospheric products to national meteorological services, scientific institutions, and environmental agencies worldwide. By providing high-precision space-based observation data for short-term weather forecasting, severe storm tracking, and long-term climate change monitoring, it underpins public safety, disaster risk reduction, and environmental decision-making on a global scale.

VN 26/50 Command Centre Audio-Visual Specialist

Within the Technical and Scientific Support Department, the Command Centre AV Specialist will support the operation, maintenance, evolution, and implementation of professional audio-visual systems used in EUMETSAT Mission Control Centres and associated engineering support environments.

The post holder will work closely with technical teams, operational users, IT and network specialists, and external contractors to ensure the availability, reliability, and continuity of mission-critical Audio Visual systems used to distribute, select, and control operational video sources in control-room environments.

The role includes support and development of IP-based video distribution architectures, including multicast distribution, AV-over-IP systems, video walls, and integrated digital KVM solutions that allow operators to switch between operational sources and associated keyboard and mouse control. These systems are integrated with EUMETSAT IT and network infrastructure and must operate reliably in mission-critical environments.

Duties

  • Ensure the effective operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous evolution of professional AV systems deployed within EUMETSAT Mission Control Centres and associated engineering support environments, with a focus on high availability and operational continuity.
  • Contribute to the design, configuration, operation, and support of IP-based video distribution architectures, including AV-over-IP, multicast video delivery, video-wall systems, and operator display solutions.
  • Provide technical support for integrated digital KVM, AV control, and automation solutions, including source selection, coordinated video, keyboard and mouse switching, user interfaces, and associated software and firmware components.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support AV system upgrades, refurbishments, reconfigurations, and replacements, taking into account lifecycle management, obsolescence, and long-term supportability.
  • Prepare and maintain technical requirements, specifications, Statements of Work, procurement inputs, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for new AV installations, enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Coordinate and provide technical oversight of external contractors and suppliers during installation, integration, configuration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities, ensuring interoperability, documentation quality, cybersecurity alignment, and compliance with applicable change-management processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A completed university degree, technical engineering degree, electronics, telecommunications, information technology, computer networking, systems engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Relevant vendor or industry certifications would be advantageous, particularly in AV-over-IP, professional AV design and integration, networked AV, digital KVM systems, control platforms, Ethernet/IP networking, or cybersecurity-aware system operation.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in professional AV technologies, IP networking, control-room systems, or operational technology environments would be desirable.
