The role is not limited to one squad or application.\nThe main focus is the automation of primarily on-premises network infrastructure and the services delivered by the department to the company.\nThe role operates within a collaborative, cohesive and motivated team (12 people) organised around two complementary areas: Automation, with seven team members including three junior developers, and Monitoring, with four team members.\nThe Development Lead provides technical direction to the automation team and actively supports the development and coaching of junior engineers. The role also collaborates closely with the monitoring team to ensure consistent, reusable and operationally effective solutions.\nWorking closely with the Team Lead and Product Owner, the Development Lead shapes the department-wide technical roadmap and translates Euroclear’s strategy into practical automation solutions.\nThis is a hands-on technical leadership role with no direct people-management responsibility.\nKey responsibilities\nDepartment-wide technical vision: Define the automation architecture and direction for the full GTS Network and Datacenter Department.\n\nOn-premises infrastructure: Drive the automation of primarily on-premises network infrastructure.\n\nCompany services: Automate and evolve the services delivered by the department to the company.\n\nSolution delivery: Translate business, network and infrastructure requirements into robust software solutions.\n\nHands-on engineering: Design, code, test, troubleshooting and support production solutions.\n\nTechnical authority: Lead design discussions and make key architecture decisions.\n\nQuality ownership: Own security, performance, reliability and maintainability.\n\nAutomation roadmap: Drive Infrastructure as Code, network service automation and Data Centre Modernization initiatives.\n\nEngineering standards: Define reusable frameworks, APIs, libraries and development practices.\n\nDelivery partnership: Work closely with the Team Lead and Product Owner on scope, risks and priorities.\n\nCross-squad consistency: Create reusable automation capabilities across all department squads.\n\nDomain partnership: Work with network engineers who provide requirements, constraints, and domain expertise.\n\nCoaching: Mentor junior and mid-level developers through reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing.\n\nRisk management: Identify technical debt, dependencies and delivery risks early.\n\nCommunication: Explain decisions and trade-offs to technical and business stakeholders.\n\nExperience\n\n6+ years: Professional Python development in production environments.\n\nTechnical leadership: Experience as a Development Lead, Technical Lead, Lead Developer or highly experienced Senior Developer.\n\nEnterprise delivery: Proven delivery of enterprise-grade software or automation solutions.\n\nArchitecture: Experience defining application architecture, standards and reusable components.\n\nCoaching: Ability to develop others while remaining hands-on.\n\nComplex environments: Experience with architecture, security and engineering governance.\n\nMandatory technical skills\nPython Expert-level development, architecture and best practices.\nFastAPI Production-grade APIs and microservices.\nAPI design Secure and maintainable REST APIs.\nTerraform Infrastructure as Code.\nAnsible Playbooks, roles and workflows.\nCI/CD Pipeline design and quality controls.\nGit & Azure DevOp s Version control, pull requests and reviews.\nTesting Pytest, unit and integration tests.\nDocker Containerised delivery.\nKubernetes Working deployment knowledge.\nArchitecture Integration patterns and reusable components.\nSecurity Secure coding, API security and secrets.\nObservability Logging, monitoring and troubleshooting.\nDocumentation Designs, decisions, APIs and operations.\nNice-to-have skills\nMicrosoft Azure: Basic cloud knowledge.\n\nAdvanced Python: Asynchronous programming and concurrency.\n\nModern delivery: GitOps, event-driven architecture and messaging.\n\nDomain exposure: Infrastructure, datacenter or network automation.\n\nData: NoSQL knowledge, particularly MongoDB.\n\nWays of working: Agile.\n\nNetwork basic expertise is required but not mandatory. They combine software engineering, automation architecture, technical leadership and coaching.\n\nThey operate across the full Network and Datacenter Department. They shape strategy, write code, review solutions, resolve complex issues and mentor developers.\n\nTheir primary focus is on-premises network infrastructure and department services.
