We deploy changes into the production environment in a controlled and structured way that doesn't compromise production stability and we ensure applicative production support.\nWithin GBS, you will join the Solution Engineering team where you can play a key role in modernisation of the engineering practices for the IT divisions.\nThe Java Centre of Excellence (CoE) defines, promotes, and continuously improves the engineering standards, frameworks, and golden paths used to build backend services and business applications across Euroclear’s Java ecosystem.\nThe CoE provides:\nA clear, opinionated, end-to-end way of working for Java development, covering coding standards, architecture patterns, testing, CI/CD, observability, security, release processes, and best practices across the SDLC. \nA robust, modern, and supported Java framework, including reusable components, libraries, guidelines, platform governance, and engineering excellence standards for the Java community. \nAs a Lead Expert Engineer, you will contribute hands-on to the CoE’s framework evolution, influence technical direction, and ensure our standards are practical, usable, and adopted across squads.\nYour Role\nAs a Lead Expert Engineer within the Java CoE, you act as a senior hands-on technical expert who turns strategy into practical, reusable, high-quality engineering solutions. You provide technical leadership, guide complex design decisions, and ensure alignment with CoE standards across squads. You support the CoE permanent members and the wider Java engineering community by driving the adoption of best practices, reusable patterns, the Java Chassis, and the Golden Path. You contribute directly to the CoE’s technical assets-including frameworks, libraries, training paths, and others-and help squads apply these assets effectively to deliver secure, scalable, and robust Java solutions across Euroclear. You will contribute the set up of the CoE.\nKey responsibilities\nTechnical Leadership & Architectural Guidance\nShape and evolve Java engineering standards, guidelines, and golden paths in collaboration with architects and engineering leads. \nTranslate strategic engineering direction into actionable frameworks and patterns usable across multiple squads. \nContribute hands-on to the design and enhancement of reusable Java components, libraries, and platform capabilities. \nProvide technical evaluations and recommendations on feasibility, integration, security, performance, and robustness \nEngineering Delivery & Solution Quality\nEnsure Java CoE standards are consistently applied across distributed, event-driven, and microservice-based architectures. \nSupport teams in adopting Kafka-based integrations, containerised workloads, cloud readiness, and modern SDLC practices in a java context. \nLead troubleshooting efforts on complex engineering issues and contribute to root-cause analysis and performance optimisation. \nGuide solution reviews to ensure compliance with engineering, architecture, and security standards. \nCross-Team Collaboration & Influence\nWork closely with architects, Expert Engineers, testing, cloud, security, and Product Owners to align engineering decisions across domains. \nAct as a trusted advisor to delivery squads, helping them interpret and apply Java CoE guidance effectively. \nInfluence stakeholders by articulating trade-offs, risks, and technical reasoning clearly. \nFacilitate alignment across divisions, ensuring coherence of Java engineering practices at enterprise scale. \nCommunity Leadership & Knowledge Sharing\nContribute to shaping the Java engineering community, promoting best practices and shared learning. \nRun workshops, code clinics, and technical reviews to uplift engineering capability. \nMentor senior and expert engineers, fostering professional growth and engineering craftsmanship. \nEncourage innovation and challenge existing approaches constructively. \nValue Realisation & Continuous Improvement\nIdentify improvement opportunities in frameworks, tools, and platforms used by Java teams. \nPrioritise CoE initiatives based on practicality, impact, and value to engineering productivity. \nMeasure adoption and effectiveness of CoE assets, using KPIs such as code quality, reuse, performance, and stability. \nProfile\nExperience & Qualifications\nExtensive experience in IT delivery using agile methodologies \nSolid experience as a senior or lead expert engineer in Java-based environments \nStrong knowledge of Agile values and principles (Scrum Master certification is a plus). \nProven experience leading technical decisions across multiple squads \nStrong engineering mindset and passion for modern software delivery \nClear in communication and capable of building consensus across teams \nExcellent analytical skills and attention to detail. \nA willingness to learn and share knowledge. \nA results-oriented and can-do attitude \nA passion for innovation and technology \nComfortable guiding decisions in ambiguous or fast-evolving contexts \nA in:\nCore Java development (several years of industry experience) and common frameworks such as Spring Boot \nAPI design, microservices \nObject-Oriented design \nEvent driven architecture and messaging technologies (Kafka, MQ…) \nCI/CD, automated testing, observability, performance engineering \nContainerisation and cloud-ready architectures \nSecure coding practices and platform governance \nExperience of deploying and running Java on IBM Z-Series Mainframe is a
