Working closely with laboratory operations, maintenance teams, quality personnel, and EHS professionals, the Mechanical Engineer will transform identified hazards and operational challenges into scalable engineering controls that can be deployed across multiple laboratories. This role is a cornerstone of Eurofins' commitment to achieving best-in-class OSHA safety performance across our Eurofins Food & Feed Testing network.\nThe ideal candidate enjoys solving real-world problems through engineering design, prototyping, equipment modification, ergonomics, automation, and process improvement. Success in this role will be measured by the quality, effectiveness, and adoption of engineered solutions that reduce employee exposure to risk while supporting efficient laboratory operations.\nDesign and develop engineering controls that eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.\n\nApply mechanical engineering principles to improve safety, ergonomics, material handling, and equipment operation.\n\nDevelop solutions including:\nMechanical lifting and handling devices \nErgonomic workstation improvements\n\nEquipment modifications\n\nCustom fixtures and tooling\n\nMachine guarding and protective systems\n\nAutomated handling solutions\n\nProcess redesigns\n\nSpecialized laboratory equipment\n\nDevelop and Validate Solutions\nLead projects from concept through implementation.\n\nCreate engineering drawings, specifications, and design packages.\n\nDevelop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions.\n\nPerform testing and validation activities to verify performance and effectiveness.\n\nTroubleshoot design challenges and refine solutions based on operational feedback.\n\nSupport installation, startup, and deployment activities.\n\nDrive Enterprise Improvements\nEvaluate recurring hazards and operational challenges occurring across multiple laboratories.\n\nDevelop standardized engineering solutions suitable for network-wide deployment.\n\nCreate implementation guides, engineering standards, and best practices.\n\nPartner with operations teams to ensure solutions are practical, maintainable, and effective.\n\nManage Projects\nDevelop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and implementation plans.\n\nCoordinate activities with equipment suppliers, fabricators, machine shops, contractors, and internal stakeholders.\n\nSupport capital project development and business case preparation.\n\nManage multiple projects simultaneously from concept through completion.\n\nOther duties as assignd.\n\nRequired\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related course of study.\n\n5+ years of engineering experience involving equipment design, product development, manufacturing systems, process improvement, automation, or related fields.\n\nDemonstrated experience taking projects from concept through implementation.\n\nStrong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.\n\nExperience working with fabrication vendors, machine shops, equipment suppliers, or maintenance organizations.\n\nExcellent communication and project management skills.\n\nPreferred\nExperience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar.\n\nExperience with prototyping and product development.\n\nExperience with ergonomics, human factors engineering, or material handling systems.\n\nExperience in laboratory, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, industrial, or regulated environments.\n\nFamiliarity with automation, robotics, machine guarding, or industrial equipment.\n\nFamiliarity with validation activities and change management processes.\n\n As a Eurofins employee, you will become part of a company that has received national recognition as a great place to work!\nWhat Success Looks Like\nEngineering solutions successfully deployed across multiple laboratories.\n\nReduction of employee exposure to high-risk tasks and activities.\n\nDevelopment of practical, sustainable controls that improve both safety and operational efficiency.\n\nSuccessful completion of projects on schedule and within budget.\n\nAdoption of standardized engineering solutions across the laboratory network.\n\nMeasurable improvements in employee safety, ergonomics, and workflow performance.\n\nThis role offers a unique opportunity to solve meaningful engineering challenges that directly impact hundreds of employees across one of North America’s largest food testing laboratory network.\nYou will have the opportunity to design equipment, improve processes, develop new technologies, and create practical solutions that make laboratory work safer, easier, and more efficient.
