Core Responsibilities:
As the head of Quality Assurance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the department’s
growth and strategic direction. Your leadership will focus on strengthening team capabilities, expanding
service offerings, and reinforcing our core competencies. As the department evolves, your responsibilities
will grow to include the introduction of new services such as regulatory consulting, external audits, label
compliance reviews, and alignment with EU GMP standards. This expansion is key to meeting the
changing needs of our clients and reinforcing our reputation as industry leaders.
QMS Oversight:
- Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure all documentation (SOPs, policies, records) is controlled and audit ready.
- Oversee change control, deviations, CAPA, and internal audits.
- Implement OOS, OOE, OOT investigations in QMS.
- Manage data retention as per existing SOPs.
- Update Quality manual, validation master plan, training matrix in ISOlocity (QMS).
ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation:
- Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards for laboratory competence.
- Oversee equipment calibrations, IQ/OQ/PQ of all critical equipment’s.
- Coordinate with the accrediting body during assessments and renewals.
- Maintains Proficiency testing plan as per ISO 17025 scope of accreditation.
Data Governance and Integrity:
- Ensure proper audit trails are in place for all critical equipment’s.
- Maintain user accounts in coordination with IT for equipment’s as per GMP compliance.
- Implement data integrity policies aligned with ALCOA+ principles.
- Provide logbooks to laboratory and manage inventory of logbooks
- Work in collaboration with IT department on data governance.
- Review pest control and sanitation reports.
Licensing & Renewals:
- Manage the lab’s licensing requirements with cannabis regulators (e.g., state cannabis authority,
- Health Canada).
- Prepare and submit documentation for new licenses, renewals, amendments, or relocations.
Compliance with Lab Testing Regulations:
- Ensure testing complies with local cannabis regulations, international limits (e.g., potency,
- residual solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, etc.) for various markets.
- Monitor testing limits, methods, and client reporting against current rules in Index of testing.
- Maintain all redacted and summary reports.
- Manage document control and no archived or obsolete versions of documents are not available
- to lab personnels and client care team.
Audit & Inspection Readiness:
- Lead regulatory inspections (e.g., from clients or accreditor).
- Conduct internal audits.
- Always maintain site inspection readiness.
- Coordinate and respond to notices of non-compliance or corrective action requests.
Regulatory Intelligence:
- Monitor changes in testing regulations, limits, and accreditation requirements.
- Communicate relevant updates to lab staff and leadership.
- Coordinate with Lab head to adjust lab procedures and testing panels accordingly.
External Communication:
- Act as point of contact with regulatory agencies.
- Submit incident reports, compliance reports, or change notifications when required.
- Support client communication related to compliance or regulatory interpretation
Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead QA/RA team and coordinate with Lab Director and Executive team.
- Conduct yearly performance review and define goals for team members.
- Provide QA training to laboratory personnel on quality assurance protocols, regulatory
- compliance, and best practices.
- Establish and monitor quality KPIs and regulatory compliance metrics.
General Duties:
- Approve all vendors used for lab, cleaning or sanitation in timely manner
- Review all documents in timely fashion.
- Conduct management review meeting on annual basis.
- Maintain all key performance indicators to monitor overall performance of High North
- Laboratories.
- Manage and secure master copies of all methods, SOPs.
- Manage and review temperature and humidity of all equipment’s and rooms and handle any
- excursions in scientific way.
- Other tasks as assigned by CEO and President/COO.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- University degree or College diploma in Cannabis, Quality Assurance, Laboratory technician.
- 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience in an ISO/GMP environment.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 17025 and experience leading a lab through a ISO 17025 audit.
- The ability to manage, motivate others, work well within a team, and lead the lab/QA team to
- achieve objectives.
- Strong work ethic, showing initiative, and following through on commitments.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, LIMS, excel, database user interfaces, and query
- software.
- Effective time management and communication skills. Meticulous document review skills.
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of GMP requirements.
Requirements:
- Must be able to reliably commute to or relocate to Woodbridge, ON, before starting work
- Does NOT require sponsorship to work in Canada
- Minimum 3 years working in Quality Assurance in an ISO/GMP regulated environment
- Minimum 2 years working in a management position with at least 2 direct reports.
- Minimum 5 years of Quality Assurance experience
- Minimum 2 years of Regulatory Affairs experience.
