Eurofins Scientific is a laboratory testing group founded in 1987 to commercialise a method for authenticating the origin of wines and foods, and it has since become one of the largest bioanalytical testing networks in the world. It runs thousands of laboratories offering food and feed testing, environmental analysis, pharmaceutical and biopharma product testing, agroscience services, clinical diagnostics and consumer product certification. The group is registered in Luxembourg, listed in Paris, and has grown almost entirely by acquiring and integrating specialist laboratories across more than sixty countries.

Eurofins Forensic Services (EFS) is the largest forensic service provider in the UK and Europe. We are part of Eurofins Scientific, which is an international life sciences company, providing a unique range of analytical testing services to clients across multiple industries, to make life and our environment safer, healthier and more sustainable. From the food you eat, to the water you drink, to the medicines you rely on and forensics. Eurofins laboratories work with the biggest companies in the world to ensure the products they supply are safe, their ingredients are authentic, and labelling is accurate. Eurofins is dedicated to delivering testing services that contribute to the health and safety of society and the planet, and to its corporate responsibility to protect the environment and ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion across the entire network of Eurofins companies.

In over 35 years, Eurofins has grown from one laboratory in Nantes, France, to 61,000 staff across a decentralised and entrepreneurial network of approximately 900 laboratories in 61 countries. Eurofins companies offer a portfolio of over 200,000 analytical methods to evaluate the safety, identity, composition, authenticity, origin, traceability and purity of biological substances and products. In 2025, Eurofins generated total revenues of EUR 7.2 billion and has been among the best performing stocks in Europe over the past 20 years.

Eurofins Forensic Services (EFS) laboratories are amongst the most advanced analytical facilities in Europe, enabling the company to offer a complete and comprehensive range of independent and innovative forensic testing solutions to police forces, legal and criminal justice organisations throughout the UK and Europe.

An opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated team of forensic SOC examiners responsible for carrying out rigorous examination of biological evidence ranging from simple swabs to items that are used in criminal activity that require targeted examination. Delivering scientifically robust profiles that support accurate identification and strengthen investigative outcomes.

Responsible for completing all examination work associated with Scene of Crime (SOC) laboratory submissions, working flexibly and communicating effectively to deliver results within contractual TRT’s and to the highest quality standards. You will be joining a team that has been commended for its commitment to serving the Criminal Justice System.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • SOC examination work - Responsible for completing all examination work associated with Scene of Crime (SOC) laboratory submissions, ensuring timely processing, high throughput, and effective delivery of all related tasks.
  • Operational compliance - Adhere to all requirements of the customer Operational Protocol, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and the EFS Quality Manual to maintain full procedural and quality compliance.
  • SOP-driven analysis - Carry out all required examinations and analyses in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring completion within agreed timescales while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
  • Exhibit integrity - Maintain the integrity, continuity, and proper handling of all exhibits, ensuring secure storage, accurate tracking, and compliant return in line with examination instructions and chain-of-custody requirements.
  • Lab workflow support - Assist in the daily management of laboratory space and workflow to ensure efficient organisation, smooth task progression, and optimal resource use.
  • Progress communication - Communicate examination progress to the Production Supervisor and escalate any issues that may impact timelines, quality, or operational continuity.
  • Non-casework updates - Provide timely updates to the Production Supervisor and/or Line Manager regarding the progress of non-casework tasks to support effective operational planning.
  • Science and Quality support - Assist with Science and Quality activities within the individual’s competencies, contributing to continuous improvement and the maintenance of laboratory standards.
  • Time booking accuracy - Take responsibility for accurately recording daily time bookings in the relevant system, ensuring timely and compliant entry of all activity.
  • Continuous improvement - Seek opportunities to improve methodologies and processes to enhance quality and effectiveness, raising ideas during team meetings and huddles.
  • Customer returns - Assist with the accurate and compliant return of exhibits and materials to the customer, ensuring all procedures and chain-of-custody requirements are met.

This position is a great fit for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment and feel confident operating within strict regulatory standards. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team where strong communication and a willingness to work closely with colleagues are key to keeping the workflow running smoothly.

GLP is central to everything we do, ensuring every sample is handled with complete accuracy, integrity, and traceability. While previous hands-on experience in laboratory testing is helpful, it’s not essential. We provide comprehensive training to help you build the skills you need and feel fully equipped to succeed in the role.

Person Specification

  • Take clear ownership of day-to-day issues, using sound judgement to resolve challenges and escalating as required.
  • Bring patience, determination, integrity and a strong eye for detail to every task, ensuring consistently high standards.
  • Maintain exceptional levels of concentration, accuracy and reliability, even when working with repetitive or complex processes.
  • Handle a busy and fast-paced workload with confidence, demonstrating strong organisational skills, personal resilience and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate openly with colleagues, prioritising team success and shared goals over individual recognition.
  • Show initiative by actively seeking opportunities to improve processes, embracing a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement and change.

The job holder will be able to demonstrate the following behaviours in line with EFS’s values: Customer Focus, Quality, Competence, Team Spirit and Integrity.
