The Systems Engineer (Mechanical) is a key role within the Engineering team and has the responsibility for maintaining and managing the performance of their systems of responsibility across the Eurostar cl373 and cl374 fleets. This includes conducting investigations where necessary, optimising and improving our maintenance, and supporting the development and execution of overhaul projects to ensure the correct level of scope related to current life cycle and reliability performance is accounted for.\nThis is a permanent role is based on site at our Temple Mills depot in Leyton. Hybrid working is available, with the expectation you attend site 4 days per week.\nThe close date for this role is 5pm on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible; Eurostar reserves the right to contact candidates before close date and to close the role earlier if suitable candidates are identified.\nInternal use only: Grade E1 travel services 3-4.\nRequirements\nWe’re looking for someone to:\nAct as the technical authority for assigned mechanical systems, ensuring their safe, reliable, and compliant performance across the fleet.\nLead investigations into system faults, defects, incidents, and non-conformances, identifying root causes and corrective actions.\nDevelop, review, and approve engineering changes, modifications, and maintenance improvements for responsible systems.\nSupport fleet reliability and performance initiatives through design, maintenance, and lifecycle optimisation activities.\nContribute to design reviews, risk assessments, FMEA activities, testing, commissioning, and system acceptance processes.\nProvide technical support and maintenance engineering expertise to depot teams, suppliers, and operational stakeholders.\nManage system obsolescence and work closely with suppliers to maintain long-term system availability and performance.\nProduce and maintain technical documentation, ensuring compliance with railway standards and regulatory requirements.\nParticipate in the on-call engineering rota, responding to safety incidents and operational needs as required. \nYou'll need...\nHNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or related Engineering discipline (Chartered Engineer status or working towards desirable)\nMinimum 5 years' experience in rolling stock engineering, maintenance, reliability, or fleet support environments.\nStrong knowledge of modern rolling stock systems and train maintenance principles.\nExperience of fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, system investigations, and reliability improvement activities.\nUnderstanding of railway standards and regulations, including TSI, EN, UIC, and ISO requirements.\nExperience supporting engineering change management, testing, commissioning, and system acceptance activities.\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical documentation, and analyse data using Microsoft Excel.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\nBenefits\nWe’re constantly working to create a bright future for our company and our colleagues.
