By connecting to vehicles, chargers, batteries, solar, and other distributed energy resources, we turn households into flexible grid assets that balance supply and demand, preventing blackouts and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.\nWe are scaling rapidly across North America and Europe. We are moving fast, we are AI-first, and we are looking for builders who want to power the grid of the future.\n\nAbout the roleOur core platform is built in Python and Django, so we're looking for experienced backend software engineers with strong Python skills; Django experience would be beneficial but we’re open to other frameworks.\n\nYou'll be the person who takes a product idea and builds the systems, services, and infrastructure that make it real — reliable, scalable, and fast to iterate on. We're not looking for generalists who dabble across the stack — we're looking for someone with deep backend craft who can move fast, build with AI as a core part of how they work, and take genuine ownership of what they ship.\n\nWe're hiring for a number of roles across both of our Technology teams: new product development and customer delivery. We'd love to talk to you about both teams, understand what excites you, and place you into the team where we think you'll thrive best. What you’ll doBackend engineering and architecture\n\nDesign, build, and own backend services and APIs that power our product — from data models to infrastructure to production reliability\n\nMake sound architectural decisions that balance shipping speed against long-term maintainability and scale\n\nTake ownership of significant technical areas — from identifying the right approach to shipping and iterating in production\n\nBuilding and shipping with AI\n\nUse AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, or equivalent) as a core, daily part of how you write and ship code — not an occasional add-on\n\nBuild working backend prototypes fast — good enough to validate with real usage, not over-engineered before it's proven\n\nKnow when a rough implementation is right for the moment and when production-grade engineering is needed — and apply that judgment confidently\n\nShip, measure, learn, iterate — kill what isn't working, double down on what is\n\nProduct and stakeholder collaboration\n\nWork closely with product, design, and commercial stakeholders to translate customer problems into technical solutions\n\nAct as a credible engineering voice in cross-functional discussions, pilot programmes, and technical scoping conversations\n\nPartner with Customer Support, Program Management, and Demand Generation to understand how customers find, adopt, and stay with ev.energy\n\nRaising the bar\n\nShare what you learn openly, challenge how things are built, and raise the technical bar for the engineers around you\n\nModel what AI-native backend engineering looks like in practice — not in theory\n\nContribute to a culture of experimentation, velocity, and commercial impact\n\nOur tech stack\n\nPython and Django for our core platform\n\nDjango REST Framework for our APIs\n\nReact, React Native and TypeScript for our web and mobile app\n\nPostgreSQL, Redis and DynamoDB for data storage\n\nAWS for hosting, with infrastructure managed as code using Terraform\n\nClaude (via the Anthropic API) features to power AI\n\nWhat we're looking forMust-haves\n\nStrong Python experience (5+ years), with a clear track record of building and shipping production backend systems\n\nExperience building backend services with a Python framework (e.g Django, FastAPI or Flask)\n\nStrong experience building with AI — you've taken AI-powered features or products from concept through to production, and use AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, or equivalent) as a genuine daily practice, not just occasionally\n\nSolid understanding of backend fundamentals — APIs, data modelling, databases, system design, and production reliability\n\nExperience leading technical decisions and influencing direction without relying on hierarchy\n\nStrong communication skills — written, verbal, and technical — credible with engineers, product, and commercial stakeholders\n\nHigh bias for action and comfort with ambiguity — you make good technical decisions with incomplete information\n\nNice to haves\n\nExperience in energy, utilities, cleantech, or adjacent domains\n\nExperience with Django\n\nFamiliarity with EV fleet operations, home energy management, or grid services\n\nFront-end or full-stack capability that lets you prototype independently without blocking on others\n\nA portfolio of backend systems, tools, or products that prove how you work\n\nDirect customer conversation experience that's shaped what you've built\n\nSalary, benefits & how we workThe salary range for this role is $138,900-$170,200 USD.\n\nKey benefits include:\n\nEquity - you'll own a part of the business through our share options program\n\nHealthcare options - to help keep you and your family in tip-top condition (provided by Cigna & Guardian)\n\nLife and disability insurance\n\nCo-working access via WeWork (if you'd like it)\n\nAnnual 'Team Week' whole company offsite\n\nL&D allowance of $1,300 per year - everyone is learning, developing and challenging themselves so we have a professional development fund per year for you to learn new skills\n\nYou can find out more about our full range of perks and benefits here.\n\nLocation & how we work\nThis role is fully remote in the US, but we're specifically looking for someone based in EST.\nThe majority of people at ev.energy work on a fully remote basis, with a small number of roles based on-site in our testing sites.\nThis means that most of our people work from home, but we're happy to provide co-working subscriptions if you'd like to spend time at a WeWork (or other co-working space close to you).\nWe balance our remote set up by getting everyone together once a year for an offsite, as we know that spending time together IRL is super important.\n\nBelonging at ev.energy\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity: we do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status. If you'd like a copy of our DE&I policy you can reach us at . We'll always do our best to accommodate reasonable adjustments to the interview process if needed - just let us know.Originally posted on Himalayas","description_format":"text","description_chars":6390,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Professional development","Stock options"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":[],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-07T02:28:00Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":51,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":0.85,"p_active":0.794,"p_room":0.75,"age_days":26,"expected_fill_days":29,"reasons":["seen:26","velocity","win:late"],"computed_at":"2026-11-02T06:13:15Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":170200,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/ev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/ev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-02T17:21:57Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":24160,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-03T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":3905447},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=3905447"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/ev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fev-energy-senior-backend-product-engineer"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":1986500}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"evenergy.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":1986500},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
