At Event Temple we believe in helping people of great character thrive and we are on a mission to create the future of sales and catering and be the most respected and innovative solution for hotels around the world.\nWe are seeking a full-time Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations to help build and scale our third-party integrations and API ecosystem.\nLocation:The candidate must be based in Nova Scotia, Canada (remote friendly).\nWho You Are\nYou are passionate about backend engineering and building reliable, scalable connections between systems\nYou have strong experience designing and implementing third-party API integrations in production environments\nYou understand integration patterns such as webhooks, asynchronous processing, event-driven systems, and real-time data synchronization\nYou are comfortable working with external APIs that may have inconsistent documentation, strict rate limits, unexpected behaviour, or varying levels of reliability\nYou enjoy investigating complex problems across multiple systems and finding practical, durable solutions\nYou value observability, system reliability, and building integrations that work consistently at scale\nWhat Will You Do?\nAs a Senior Backend Software Engineer focused on integrations, you will help design, build, and improve connections between Event Temple and hospitality platforms, property management systems, email providers, payment processors, and other industry partners.\nYou can expect to:\nDesign and implement reliable, high-performance integrations with third-party APIs\nBuild integrations with property management systems, payment gateways, hospitality platforms, and other external services\nContribute to technical and architectural decisions for our growing integration ecosystem\nBuild and improve systems for monitoring integration health, API performance, failures, and data consistency\nDevelop resilient integration workflows using retries, idempotency, rate limiting, error handling, and graceful degradation\nCollaborate with integration partners on technical requirements, API specifications, testing, and implementation details\nInvestigate and resolve complex production issues across Event Temple and external systems\nImprove the scalability and reliability of background processing and synchronization workflows\nWork with other engineers to establish and share best practices for APIs, integrations, and distributed systems\nParticipate in technical discussions with partner engineering teams and contribute to integration planning\nThis is a senior individual-contributor role. You will be expected to work independently, take ownership of complex technical problems, and collaborate closely with the broader engineering team.\nQualifications\nWe are looking for someone who has:\n5+ years of professional software engineering experience\nSignificant experience building and maintaining third-party API integrations in production\nStrong backend development experience using Ruby on Rails or another modern server-side framework\nThe ability and interest to become productive in Ruby on Rails\nExperience designing reliable systems for high-volume, multi-tenant applications\nA strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, asynchronous processing, and background jobs\nExperience handling retries, idempotency, rate limits, timeouts, partial failures, and data consistency\nExperience with observability practices, including monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting\nExperience investigating and debugging complex issues across distributed systems\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\nThe ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers, product teams, and external partners.\nNice-to-Have Experience\nThe following experience would be considered an asset:\nProfessional experience with Ruby on Rails\nExperience with Sidekiq, Redis, and background job processing\nExperience with hospitality industry APIs, including property management systems, booking engines, or payment processors\nExperience with integration platforms, ETL systems, or data pipelines\nExperience working directly with external engineering teams, vendors, or integration partners\nKnowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems\nKnowledge of API gateway patterns, OAuth, rate limiting, and
