At Evolv, you’ll help develop the mechanical systems behind technology used to protect communities around the world.\nAs a Mechanical Engineer III, you’ll take hands-on ownership of components and subassemblies throughout the product lifecycle-from early concepts and rapid prototypes through design validation, production tooling, release, and continuous improvement. Using SolidWorks and Arena PDM, you’ll create reliable, manufacturable designs with a strong focus on plastic injection molding and integrated electromechanical systems.\nYou’ll work closely with electrical engineering, firmware, industrial design, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing to solve complex design challenges and turn ideas into products that perform reliably in demanding, real-world environments. This is an opportunity to sharpen your technical craft, expand your ownership, and see your work deliver meaningful customer impact at scale.\nSuccess in the Role\nIn the first 90 days, you will:\nBuild strong partnerships across mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, firmware, industrial design, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing while developing a solid understanding of Evolv’s products and development priorities. \nBecome proficient in Evolv’s SolidWorks and Arena PDM workflows and contribute effectively to design reviews, documentation, and engineering-change processes. \nTake ownership of defined components, subassemblies, or sustaining-engineering assignments and deliver high-quality designs, prototypes, drawings, or analyses with support from the broader team. \nIn the first 12 months, you will:\nIndependently own mechanical design work for assigned product features, components, or sustaining initiatives from concept through validation and release. \nDeliver reliable, manufacturable, and serviceable designs that appropriately balance performance, cost, quality, and schedule. \nDrive product improvements by identifying root causes and partnering across manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to implement well-documented design solutions. \nThe Work\nExecute mechanical design and development for new and existing products, with an emphasis on injection-molded plastic components \nCreate detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production-ready drawings in SolidWorks or an equivalent CAD system \nTranslate product requirements into mechanical design specifications and contribute to design reviews and technical decisions \nDesign precision electromechanical assemblies and enclosures, and manage the full product lifecycle from concept and prototyping through production tooling and sustainment \nApply design for manufacturability and design for reliability principles to improve robustness, quality, yield, and long-term product performance \nPerform tolerance analysis, structural and thermal validation, and root-cause analysis on mechanical issues \nCollaborate with electrical engineering, firmware, industrial design, supply chain, quality, and manufacturing partners to ensure cohesive system integration \nWork directly with contract manufacturers and suppliers, including international partners, to improve manufacturability and yield \nSupport tooling, fixture, test-equipment design, prototype builds, factory validation, test plans, failure analysis, and design-transfer activities \nManage and maintain CAD data, bills of materials, engineering change orders, test plans, and other engineering documentation using Arena PDM \nEnsure compliance with Evolv quality-system and product-certification standards, including UL and CE requirements, and support risk assessments and DFMEA development \nResearch emerging materials, manufacturing processes, and design methods; propose and prototype creative solutions that improve performance and cost efficiency \nContribute to a collaborative, iterative engineering culture grounded in precision and curiosity \nLeadership, Team Structure & Culture\nYou will join the R&D organization and report to the Director of Hardware Engineering. The organization fosters a collaborative, mission-driven culture that values trust, curiosity, kindness, and innovation.\nRole Location\nThis is an onsite role, based at our headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts.\nCompensation and Transparency Statement\nThe base salary range for this full-time position is $114,000- $184,000. In addition to base salary, this role offers a competitive target bonus, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package. This range reflects our commitment to pay transparency and equity, in alignment with applicable state laws. Our compensation ranges are determined based on factors such as role, level, location, market benchmarks, and internal equity. The posted range represents the good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role across U.S. locations. Actual compensation within the range will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and geographic location.\nIn accordance with state and local pay transparency laws-including those in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and others-we disclose salary ranges in all job postings and provide additional information upon request.\nWe are committed to fair pay practices, and we regularly review our compensation programs to ensure they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with our values.\nRequirements\nBachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field \n4+ years of experience in mechanical design of electromechanical products, preferably in consumer electronics, industrial, or security systems \nProficiency with SolidWorks or an equivalent CAD system; PDM experience preferred \nUnderstanding of processes and part design for plastic injection molding, sheet metal, and machined parts \nUnderstanding of processes for molding large plastic parts, such as RIM, structural foam, or structural web molding \nKnowledge of DFM/DFx, tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T, materials selection, and expected variation in injection-molded, sheet-metal, and machined parts \nExperience with Arena PDM or a similar product lifecycle management system \nExperience working with suppliers, global contract manufacturers, and mid-volume production environments \nFamiliarity with structural, thermal, and vibration analysis using FEA or other simulation tools \nExperience with modern prototype fabrication such as 3D printing \nStrong cross-functional collaboration, communication, documentation, and presentation skills \nA portfolio of professional or personal work with a brief description of key challenges and individual contributions \nExperience with basic hand tools for concept and prototype assembly \nPreferred Experience\nExperience with highly constrained electronics packaging and thermal management \nFamiliarity with design for reliability, FEA, and testing methodologies for mechanical reliability \nExperience in regulated industries such as medical devices, automotive, or security technology \nExperience using shop tools: drill, end mill, CNC router, and 3D printers \nBenefits\nAt Evolv, we’re on a mission to help make public spaces safer through innovative security technology.
