This team builds and maintainscritical systems that power backend APIs for consumer and B2B payment processing, administrative tools for payment configuration, and support for a variety of payment methods across the platform.\nOur services are designed with security, scalability, and availability in mind, supporting credit card processing and payment routing at globalscale. As an engineer on this team, you'llapply your passion for backend development, cloud computing, and modern engineering practices to solve real-world challenges that impactmillions of travelers and partners worldwide. We are looking for an engineer who demonstratesstrong ownership, follows through on commitments, and takes pride in building reliable systems that perform well in production.\nIn this role, you will:\nDesign, build, and maintainscalable backend payment services that support Expedia’s global travel platform\n\nApply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions\n\nImplement secure data handling practices to protect payment information and meet compliance standards\n\nRecommend and apply architectural patterns or GenAI capabilities to improve system design and innovation\n\nEnhance service reliability through observability, automation, and continuous operational improvements\n\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features aligned with Expedia’s strategic goals\n\nMinimum Qualifications:\nBachelor's degree or Master'sin a related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience\n\n5+ years of experience in backend software development, working with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale\n\nProficiencyin JavaorKotlin, with hands-on experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases\n\nExperience with CI/CDpipelines, infrastructure/test automation, and delivering features in Agile development environments\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience working on payment platforms or implementing backend services leveraging GenAI technologies\n\nExperience contributing to multiple multi-quarter, cross-team projects\n\nExperience supporting complex distributed systems in production through monitoring, debugging, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis\n\nDemonstrated experience designing and deploying scalable services on AWS\n\nA Master'sdegree in a related technical field\n\nPlease note that this role is only available in Austin, TX, in alignment with our flexible work model, which requires employees to be in the office at least three days a week. We are unable to offer relocation assistance for this role.\nThe total cash range for this position in Austin is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.\nStarting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.
