This role serves as a key advisor on grievance management, collective agreement administration, labour relations best practices, and employee relations issues, while supporting positive union-management relationships across the organization.\nThis position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a flexible working environment.\nKey responsibilities include:\nActs as the first point of contact for site HR and management team for all labour & employee relations matters\n\nSupports Management team with ongoing coaching, mentoring and knowledge to effectively manage team members within a unionized environment\n\nCoaches and guides Human Resources team members on matters relating to labour relations\n\nParticipates and assists in the collective bargaining process; includes mandate development, preparation of materials, proposals, and collective agreement implementation\n\nProvides general support including but not limited to assisting with collective agreement interpretation and application, research, preparing and/or reviewing general communication\n\nProvides labour relations advice to management and human resources in addressing initiatives with possible LR impact\n\nCollects, analyzes, and interprets information such as case law, reviewing precedents, arbitral jurisprudence and gathering related documentation as required\n\nTrack and analyze grievances for trends, potential issues with language; identifies opportunities for improvement. Generates grievance reports for regional management and senior leaders.\n\nContributes to the development of labour relations best practice learning and support for leadership to promote positive union-management relations\n\nCo-Chairs Labour Management meetings and supports/manages overall labour management relationship.\n\nParticipates in projects, providing labour relations support to a variety of stakeholder groups.\n\nSupports the Labour and Employee Relations team with information and evidence gathering required to respond to various employee matters that arise, including HRTO cases, MOL complaints and disputes.\n\nSome intermittent provincial travel may be required\n\nComplete other duties as assigned.\n\nWhat we’re looking for:\nPost-secondary degree in business/human resources/industrial relations or an acceptable combination of education and experience\n\nHuman Resource designation (i.e. CHRL) preferred\n\n3-5 years of Labour Relations experience in a unionized environment, with an emphasis on significant multi-site collective agreement locations.\n\nDemonstrated knowledge/experience supporting collective agreement negotiations\n\nStrong knowledge/experience with interpretation of collective agreements.\n\nDemonstrated ability to provide advice and counsel to business while using ability to influence\n\nBroad knowledge of employment legislation: Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, etc.\n\nDemonstrated ability to analyze data and interpret information\n\nDemonstrated experience in being innovative, taking initiative, and being proactive.\n\nStrong consultation/facilitation, analytical, communication and strategic thinking skills are required.\n\nWhat Extendicare has to offer:\nAt Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
