The internship begins in May or June, with a preferred commitment of 4 to 8 months. We’re rebuilding the chip fabrication process from the ground-up, so you’ll be exposed to some really interesting and impactful work. This is a hands-on process engineering role-you’ll be responsible for experiment design and execution of new semiconductor and thin-film fabrication methods. We're looking for someone with both a strong understanding of traditional semiconductor processing methods and an open-mindedness to new techniques.\nThis is a high-ownership role with lots of autonomy in a fast-moving startup environment. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to novel R&D processes and influence tool design. Candidates should have hands-on cleanroom experience and a track record of developing nanofabrication recipes from scratch, ideally across multiple process steps.\nResponsibilities\nDesign and run experiments alongside senior process engineers\n\nRead academic papers and technical literature to inform experimental design; whiteboard ideas and iterate quickly\n\nLearn and operate a range of semiconductor tools, including deposition, etch, lithography, and metrology systems\n\nDevelop, transfer, and optimize process recipes across platforms with a focus on consistency, yield, and throughput\n\nAnalyze process data, troubleshoot recipe or equipment issues, and clearly document findings and results for the team\n\nRequired Experience\nPursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering\n\nAbility to learn quickly and troubleshoot technical problems\n\nHands-on experience with wafer fabrication tools (etch, deposition, patterning) and metrology tools (AFM, SEM, thin film measurement, etc.)\n\nRecipe development and optimization for some subset of thin film deposition, dry etch, or lithography.\n\nStrong foundation in theoretical semiconductor knowledge (devices, fabrication, etc.)\n\nNice-to-have\nFamiliarity with data processing in Python\n\nMechanical or maintenance experience with fab tools\n\nWorking at fab2\nWe’re an early-stage hardware startup with solid funding, world-class advisors, and labs/offices in Austin, TX, Lockhart, TX, and San Francisco, CA. fab2 is committed to fair and equitable compensation. Process Interns are paid hourly, at a rate equivalent to on an annualized range of $108,000-$126,000 depending on experience and education.
