You will manage data warehousing, ETL pipelines, medallion data sets, BI tooling, and agentic analytics tools that teams across Faire rely on every day to make critical business decisions. The team’s mandate is to reduce the time from data to insights for Product Engineering, Data Science, Product Management, Strategy, Analytics, and Finance while ensuring high quality and freshness of that data.\nThis is not just a people management role. You will set the technical direction for the analytics platform, shape its strategy, and lead a team that other teams across the company depend on. You’ll partner closely with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to turn ambiguous needs into reliable, scalable, cost-efficient platform systems, and you’ll stay close enough to the architecture and code to lead your team well.\nYou’re excited about this role because…\nYou want to build and lead a team that owns foundational systems used across the entire company\nYou enjoy hard technical problems in data warehousing, pipelines, data quality, and the performance and cost trade-offs of data processing at scale\nYou care deeply about internal customer experience and want analysts and data scientists to trust the platform and find it easy to use\nYou’re excited about how AI agents are changing analytics work, and want to put those tools in the hands of the people who use the data\nYou love helping engineers grow and building a team culture of craft, ownership, and continuous learning\nWhat you’ll do:\nDirectly manage, mentor, and grow a team of 8 engineers, helping each of them reach higher levels of impact in their careers\nSet the technical vision and roadmap for Faire’s analytics platform, including data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, foundational datasets, and BI tooling and integrations\nLead scoping, planning, and prioritization, balancing urgent near-term needs with long-term platform investments\nHold a high bar for data integrity, security, privacy, governance, reliability, and operational excellence across the platform\nOwn cost efficiency across storage and compute, with the right monitoring, alerting, and cost tracking for workloads\nBuild AI/LLM-powered tooling and automation that make analytics work faster and more accurate\nPartner closely with Data Science, Analytics, Finance, and Product Engineering to understand their pain points and turn them into clear platform priorities\nTriage and assign production issues and defects alongside planned work, and identify the infrastructure or tooling changes that prevent them\nDive into the architecture, designs, and code so you can lead your team effectively\nManage relationships with select infrastructure vendors\nOwn process and team structure decisions, and attract, hire, and retain top engineering talent\nWe’re excited about you because you:\nHave 8+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 3+ years in engineering leadership positions\nHave experience building and operating data platforms, such as data warehousing, ETL pipelines, orchestration, and analytics engineering workflows\nHave a strong technical background you still use every day, including strong Python and SQL, and are willing to write software for a couple of months as part of your onboarding\nUnderstand the performance, capacity, and cost trade-offs in data processing systems\nHave experience diagnosing, mitigating, and addressing data system production issues at scale\nDemonstrate strong internal customer empathy and a track record of building platforms or tooling with high adoption\nHave a track record of leading teams to higher levels of contribution and helping engineers grow their careers\nAre comfortable bringing clarity and structure to ambiguous, cross-functional problems\nHave strong communication skills and can work well with both technical and non-technical partners\nHave a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience\nBonus points if you:\nHave experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses\nHave led through other managers\nHave a postgraduate degree in computer science, data science, data analytics, or mathematics\nTechnologies we use & teach:\n(Experience in similar technologies is welcomed)\nLanguages: Kotlin, Python, SQL\nInfrastructure: AWS, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, Flink, Kafka, Fivetran, MySQL, CockroachDB, Mode\nAI Tools: Claude Cowork, Codex, Cursor\nSalary range:\nCanada: the pay range for this role is $190,500 - $262,000 per year. \nThis role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.\nHybrid Faire employees currently go into the office 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third flex day of their choosing (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday). Additionally, hybrid in-office roles will have the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 weeks per year.
