Role Overview

We are seeking a high-credibility Head of Compliance to lead and oversee our Compliance function for a Malta-based crypto trading business. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring direct engagement experience with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), prior MFSA PQ/approved-role status, and the expertise to navigate the EU regulatory landscape under MiCA. Operating in an agile environment, you will balance strategic advisory with direct execution mentoring a lean team while taking full ownership of regulatory governance and risk remediation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Regulatory Engagement: Lead and oversee all regulatory matters, including audits, exams, onsite inspection, regulatory reporting, ongoing regulatory dialogue with regulatory agencies, including the MFSA, FIAU, and broadly EU agencies where applicable. 
• MiCA & Crypto Oversight: Lead the firm through MiCA licensing and transition processes, ensuring CASP/VFA policies, product features, and operational controls align with EU regulatory standards.
• Governance & Monitoring: Own and execute the compliance program,  board reporting, and internal policy registers.
• Remediation & Advisory: Pragmatically resolve legacy compliance issues while delivering commercially minded advice to enable business growth.
• Lean Team Leadership: Guide, mentor, and set standards for a team of 3-4 compliance professionals without reliance on heavy administrative infrastructure.

Mandatory Requirements

• MFSA Approved Status: Prior MFSA Personal Questionnaire (PQ) approval and successful completion of regulatory interviews.
• Regulatory Track Record: Direct experience managing supervisory interactions and engagement with the MFSA.
• Location: Current residency in Malta or an immediate willingness to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications & Profile

• Practical experience with MiCA transitions, CASP / VFA frameworks, crypto-assets, fintech, or payment institutions.
• Proven "builder mentality" with a preference for direct execution in a scale-up environment.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve complex legacy compliance issues pragmatically.

Compensation & Transparency: The expected base salary range for this position based in Malta is 128,000 to 173,000 Euros per year. This range reflects the position's requirements and represents a good faith framework determined by objective, gender-neutral criteria such as required skills, core competencies, and professional experience. This base range is exclusive of discretionary bonuses, equity allocations, and localized benefits.
