And if it can be measured, it can also be realized.\nThe Sr Mechanical Engineer is a key contributor responsible for design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and packaging for FARO's metrology products.\nThis position is considered a hybrid position out of our Exton, PA office.\nHow you will make a difference @ FARO:\nKey individual contributor able to work autonomously to support the design of new metrology instrument products.\n\nSupport projects from concept to productions in close coordination with related departments and vendors\n\nServe as subject matter expert in the design and tuning of servo control systems\n\nResearch and select motors, bearings, and sensors for precision axis design.\n\nResearch and design power transmission mechanisms.\n\nPerform dynamic system analysis.\n\nConduct feasibility studies of designs and concepts using engineering principles and FEA software\n\nPerform hands-on assembly, testing and troubleshooting of prototypes to ensure design requirements are met\n\nDevelop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques.\n\nBuild BOMs for manufacturing and assembly\n\nGuide and assist operations with creation of assembly instructions\n\nUnderstand cross functional technology and interfaces within the product line\n\nAnalyze and refine high level requirements\n\nMentor other engineers and review their designs and analysis\n\nLeads the mechanical engineering of subsystems and acts as subsystem project lead when required\n\nInform stakeholders and cross functional team of new projects in a concise and professional way to convince and get commitment\n\nProvide suggestions for product improvements at part and module level\n\nThis position requires:\nA minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Preference towards MS or PhD in Mechanical, Electrical or Robotics Engineering with advanced course work in servo controls\n\nA minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in machine design and servo control design and tuning. Preference towards more than 10 years of experience.\n\nExpert level understanding of servo control system design and tuning for complex linear and rotary systems\n\nPrecision machine design and evaluation for metrology, machine tool and robotics or similar applications\n\nDesign using Solidworks CAD software or similar to create models and drawings\n\nFinite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS\n\nDrawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)\n\nKinematic component design\n\nMotor and Bearing design\n\nSystem error budgets and tolerance stack ups\n\nDynamic system modeling using MATLAB or similar software\n\nExperience with programming languages such as Python or C#\n\nWhat FARO can offer you:\nFARO has excellent benefits for you and your family.
