As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Operator team, you will help build and evolve the software that enables Fastned to operate one of Europe’s most reliable fast-charging networks.\nThe team owns Revolt Admin, Fastned’s internal operations platform used by Customer Operations, Network Operations and Field Operations to manage and monitor stations, chargers, charging sessions, users and payments. By improving this platform, you will have a direct impact on the scalability and reliability of Fastned’s network.\nYou will work closely with frontend engineers, product management, product design, other engineering teams and internal stakeholders. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys taking ownership, navigating ambiguity and turning complex operational challenges into pragmatic, reliable solutions.\nYour overall responsibilities include\nDesigning, developing, testing and reviewing reusable, maintainable and scalable code for Revolt Admin and Fastned’s operational platforms;\n\nDelivering core Operator milestones that improve Revolt Admin, reliability of Fastned’s charging infrastructure;\n\nWorking AI-first: using AI-augmented engineering, agentic workflows and AI tooling as a natural part of how you design, build, test and review, with judgement for where AI is a multiplier and where humans stay in the loop;\n\nTaking ownership from discovery to post-production;\n\nTaking operational responsibility for what you build, including monitoring, alerting and incident analysis;\n\nHelping improve engineering methodologies and best practices, and mentoring others as a senior engineer and technical sparring partner in the Operator team.\n\nRequirements\nWho we are looking for\nIn order to be successful in this role, you bring a strong sense of ownership and a pragmatic, proactive mindset. You enjoy working in a collaborative scale-up environment where things can change quickly and where taking initiative matters.\nAdditionally, you tick the following boxes:\nYou have 7+ years of professional backend experience, with strong hands-on Kotlin and/or Java experience.\n\nYou have experience building and operating microservices in production, using REST APIs, cloud platforms and relational databases.\n\nYou are familiar with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka.\n\nYou have hands-on experience working with Elasticsearch.\n\nYou care about reliability, maintainability and the operational impact of the software you build.\n\nYou communicate clearly, collaborate easily across teams and enjoy mentoring others.\n\nYou are comfortable with ambiguity, making pragmatic trade-offs and taking ownership beyond your immediate team.\n\nYou use AI tooling as part of your engineering workflow, with sound engineering judgement.\n\nYou are fluent in English and have an affinity with Fastned’s mission.\n\nNice to have\nExperience in e-mobility, energy, charging infrastructure or another operationally complex domain.\n\nExperience building software for internal, network or field operations.\n\nExperience with taking technical leadership for a project or domain.\n\nJoin us in building a better future\nWe work hard to change the world, but we don't forget to recognise & celebrate our successes, big and small.
