About the FCA and team

We regulate financial services firms in the UK, to keep financial markets fair, thriving and effective. By joining us, you’ll play a key part in protecting consumers, driving economic growth and shaping the future of financial services in the UK.

SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). The Buy-Side Directorate oversees asset management and alternative investment firms, ensuring they operate with integrity, provide products that deliver fair value, and support healthy, competitive markets for consumers and the wider economy.

Join the Asset Management & Funds Department within the FCA’s Buy-Side Supervision Directorate, where you'll help develop and deliver supervision strategies that protect consumers and support market integrity. Working as part of a collaborative team, you’ll engage with firms and stakeholders across the sector, respond to emerging risks and contribute to supervisory approaches that support positive outcomes across financial markets.

Role responsibilities

  • Respond proactively to firm-specific risks, taking timely action to support positive outcomes for consumers, markets and firms
  • Design and deliver supervision strategies, applying a range of supervisory tools to address risks and meet regulatory goals
  • Lead or contribute to thematic reviews and sector-wide projects, identifying emerging risks and helping shape the regulatory approach to key market issues
  • Build trusted relationships with firms, regulators, trade bodies and other stakeholders to support effective engagement and positive change
  • Conduct senior-level discussions with confidence and sound judgement, shaping decision-making and improving firm conduct
  • Collaborate across the FCA, working closely with teams such as Enforcement and Authorisations to deliver joined-up regulatory outcomes, continuous improvement and enhanced ways of working
  • Develop deep sector knowledge while helping to build a fairer, more resilient financial system that supports consumer protection, market confidence and outcomes for millions of consumers across the UK

Skills required

Minimum:

  • Prior experience in the asset management, insurance or banking sectors, gained through roles in industry, consultancy or regulatory environments
  • Prior experience in reviewing, investigating and assessing information from multiple sources to make sound, evidence-based judgements
  • Prior experience in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, demonstrating well-developed communication and influencing skills

Essential:

  • Demonstrable commitment to the FCA’s mission, with a strong commitment to make a meaningful difference and deliver positive outcomes in a regulatory environment
  • Solid ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining professionalism and credibility
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative and effective relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders
  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with others and adjust your communication style for different audiences
  • Ability to represent both yourself and the FCA in a professional, credible and positive manner
  • Well-developed learning agility, with the ability to quickly develop new knowledge, take on additional responsibilities and effectively address gaps in understanding

  • Colleagues spend a minimum of 50% of their working time in the office each month (60% for Directors and Executive Directors) across our London, Leeds and Edinburgh offices.
  • Non-contributory pension (8-12% depending on age) and life assurance at eight times your salary
